The worst part is that vote impacted everyone else on this planet, also. Americans don't care about that, of course, but it's the more important legacy, in terms of world history.

Americans voted for the end of the American empire. The most shocking part of it was that it was at a time where America was unquestionably recovering from the pandemic better than anywhere else in the world. We had a choice between solidifying America or destroying it, and chose the latter.

Just wait until the MAGA crowd realizes that they've been destroying a world order that has been enormously -- to a truly staggering degree -- to their benefit. (Of course, they will never actually have this realization. See, e.g., Reform supporters in the post-Brexit UK.)

Brexit and Boris Johnson were the trial run for MAGA and Trump.

I mean I guess the revealed preference here is for racism, misogyny, and hate over material conditions.
