So joining the "Resistance" now means gathering up starter packs of other "Resisters," and thanking the people who added you to the list, and using lots of colourful emojis, and making up more lists... At what point this intersects with the real and urgent goal of firing Trump, I have no idea.

I think it allows many to ease the guilt of not voting or acting like a spurned spoiled Bernie baby and spite voting. All helped push the end of America as they thought they knew it. Shame shame shame

Gives people a false sense that they are actually doing something.

Exactly. My grey-haired sisters in the U.S. stuff envelopes, make phone calls and ring door bells. (I don't because I'm Canadian.) Helluva lot more effective than these daisy chains, if you ask me.

If you look at it optimistically you could see what you’re noticing online as evidence of networking going on among dissidents and hope that maybe 1/20 (?) of those whose posts you’re seeing is actually someone doing something concrete?

Possibly. I understand that people are desperate and by connecting even with strangers online they at least FEEL like they're not alone in the struggle against fascism. It's when building these connections seems like an end in itself that I find it rather narrow and fanciful.

Yes I have that reaction sometimes too especially to people who I suspect aren’t really particularly antifasciste but rather are simply posturing for likes.

Exactly. I think of my sisters in Colorado a few years ago, out every Sunday morning at a BLM demo, facing a gun nut with an AR-15 who would come out WITH HIS WIFE AND YOUNG KID and stand facing them from across the street. That takes some guts.

It sure does. I once saw a guy “open carrying” in a Walmart in Orlando and I nearly lost my mind.

It's freakish. How any society couod convince itself that's normal or rational is beyond understanding. In many ways, the US is clinically insane and has been for at least the past 25 years.
