I would love opinions, please I wanna start an errand/transport business for seniors. Gorceries,dr's appointments, banking. It would also provide companionship. Thoughts, suggestions?

I think there'd be a huge demand. We had trouble finding reliable help with 2 seniors in our family who went through dementia.
I am going to be specific to ambulatory folks/folx only.
My 2 relatives were ambulatory, too. There's a lot of people that still live alone or with another family number that need help.
Agreed
My family has engaged someone to visit our elderly parents in the mornings to ensure they take their daily medications as neither one can be trusted to take them on their own. Mum simply wonβt and Dad refuses to fight with her about it any more (and he often canβt be arsed to take his own, either).
Yes. Home care is such a big help
It certainly is. Itβs unfortunate our parents canβt be relied upon to take their meds of their own initiative but it is what it is. Ironically (given how truculent they become when weβve begged them to take their meds) they donβt argue with the caregiver and adore her. Weβre very grateful for herβ€οΈ
Just to cover yourself & add to credentials, get certified in CPR & possibly a police clearance to inspire confidence in prospective clients & set you apart from others.
I am an HCA/PSW, so have all of that already. Oh yes police clearance for sure. I will need a taxi license too
You go, girl! π Sounds like you've got all the bases covered. I think it's a fantastic idea & underserved in most communities. There's no end to the odd jobs many seniors require, depending on how you want to define yourself/the job.
Thank You. π₯° Going thru big career upheaval at my age is scary and very unsettling.
Absolutely. If you've come from a background of stability (ie. hours, benefits, etc) it's definitely shaky ground. But.....upside: a legit need for what you're creating, transferable skills, you'll be your own boss, set your hours/job definition & help so many people. You got this! π
Can you keep a casual or Part time HSW position while you get started?
Sounds excellent and much needed.
Hey where do you live?
SW Ontario.
I think it's a great idea. Small town here - not many services like that.
Yes, county seniors likely need it more
How about helping out with moving into seniors residences, down sizing of items in the home and helping thru that transition. A lot if seniors have no kids, younger people to assist
Karen, you sound like a sensible girl who gets things done. This is a need in most communities. I have no doubt you'll be a success. Keep us posted
Aaawww thanks Loratta π₯°π«
I've been thinking... Companionship is such a big issue; isolation is a silent killer of the elderly! You could always get your clients on Bluesky to give advice to younger people...Now that would be very interesting
My suggestion is - get your basic plan on paper and contact CBC and the Minister for Families. Get the word out there the right way. Probably other seniors organizations you should contact too.
The Business Development Centre in your area would help with free marketing plans, etc
Great idea!
Elderly prefer to stay in their homes as long as possible. For those in rural areas, something like this is needed and would be appreciated imo.
It is a good idea. My wife had a similar idea here in Victoria. Your vehicle insurance will rise. And If the business ever evolves beyond simple transport, ie doing things for your clients such as banking or advocacy, that kind of insurance might be quite expensive.
I would only accopny ut that is definitely something to keep in mind. Thank You βΊοΈ
This sounds like a great idea, a much-needed service! I wish you every success in it! The idea of companionship especially, such a forgotten need. The older we get I think the more we need connection and the harder it is to come by it.
Great idea and much needed!!
