Independent here as well. Remove the criminals with due process and under the uniform of ICE. Simultaneously create a guest worker program which can lead to citizenship. I work in a restaurant...the industry cannot survive without immigrants. It. Can. Not.

I disagree. I don't think people that broke the law and cut to the head of the line should be rewarded. They should all go home and start over. There are millions waiting for their hearing that did it the right way. They come first. Everybody else goes home and starts at the rear of the line.

I’m with you. The system should work better.

Right, guest worker programs mainly for hospitality, ag, construction, healthcare etc. Path to citizenship after X years' residence. Access to social services after Y years (Y being smaller than X). Accelerated citizenship if you start a US-based business hiring Z or more Americans.

Are you utterly mad? It’s really, really not that hard. My husband became a citizen in 2014. Yes, it’s work, but nothing worth having comes easy. And it’s not as though only a few get through. The day he became a citizen, he was in a group of 5000 people. They were the first of three that day.

It’s odd that you assume that I have no experience with the system (or anyone else for that matter)

That's why I didn't bother responding. Went through it with my wife in the early 2000's. Stood in line with her on MLK at the INS building in Atlanta at 4am more times than I care to remember. Got a flag that flew over the nations capital and a letter from Senator Johnny Isaakson out of it.

Right - it is a lot of paperwork and being a bit organized, but very doable, especially if you get a decent lawyer. And loads of people do it all the time.

Tons, and from all over the globe. And like you mention, in the tech field (my guy is a developer) you meet a variety of people on different immigration journeys.

And now we are abducting people who are coming in for naturalization meetings, and outright retracting permanent resident status from people here legally, going through the system. 2014 was a very long time ago. I'm glad he got in when he did.

Do you win a lot of arguments by front loading with emotional manipulation? That’s some tired ass labneh.

How is it emotionally manipulative to describe the differences between them and now? The pathway to citizenship is different today. The official pathway still exists, but the government is actively causing people to lose legal status, and violating their rights by imprisoning them over speech.

Oh, I know the reality of the legal system, I've been through it myself (British person, now married to a US-born citizen.) Also I work in a sector with a high % of foreign-born workers (tech), so have seen the experience of people of all sorts of different origins.

Also maybe don’t dismiss the cases of hundreds of thousands of immigrants who are going through the legal process so they are now in legal limbo just so you can inflate your numbers. There needs to be an easier way to legalize people who have been here for a long time and are not breaking laws.

And arrest them while they are attending court and offices to fulfil their obligations while adhering to the legal process. Looking from outside I have no publishable words

John Boehner made sure there was no solution to this issue when he refused to bring the bipartisan senate bill to the floor. They like having the problem/have no intention of solving it
