You don't *need* to use gAI. You can make all the justifications you like, but insisting "it's here, we have to live with it" when YOURE the one bringing it into the house is just weak. Nobody needed this shit 3 years ago. Pretending you do now is just signalling future attacks on labour.

It's ironic that's he's all "look how fun genAI is" when Disney is suing Midjourney

It’s such a fundamentally weird argument. Like, to swap framing: Companies like Temu are here. We all know Temu is objectively horrible. I can’t stop Temu from operating. But I can also just… Not use Temu? Wild to see people arguing that they don’t have free will and are simply obligated to use AI

This may be the first time he's ever been in favour or being inclusive with something from after the 90s.

Are there any good comebacks for "we have to live with/use it"? Because apparently when I say how bad it is for the environment or how it plagiarises artist's work seems not to be a strong enough argument for people outside of my artist bubble (e.g. work and sadly also family). And I am so tired.

"Tee hee isn't this fun" doesn't land so much as it crashes through your workers sense of security. The ONLY reason for gAI is to strip value from labour, to enrich CEOs and shareholders. You should resist it wherever possible, it's your responsibility to staff and freelancers.

"It's undeniably dangerous, but hey, it's fun!" is such a shitty take lmao. I'm so tired of AI apologists.

marvel pays artists like shit for decades and even when films get picked up, no one on the creative team sees a single royalty check. all comic book publishers make money off exploiting the people that work under their label, not even as official employees but as contractors and subcontractors

Also really enjoying “by that same token” placed as if it’s a meaningless flourish rather than an explicit attempt to yoke together actual art and slop at this relatively low-salience point so that anyone letting it pass can’t complain later.

(I want you to know that I worked really hard for something less pretentious than “low-salience” but I’m tired and I got into that brain-space where you can’t think past the first thing that pops into your head. I’m sorry. I’m not that man, and I will do better. Please stop posting sexy watto)
