Demanding that democrat candidates abide by the Leahy law isn't a purity test. Stopping our bankrolling of Israel's genocide is the bare minimum. Instead of doing that, the democrats put a big gun named "trump" to our heads and demanded our votes while guaranteeing that the genocide would continue.
Dems lost and it's their own fault. They refuse to listen, because they're paid not to. We've only had two outliers in the democratic party. Omar Fateh in Minneapolis, and Zohran Mamdani in NYC. They did extremely well because they actually promise things that their base wants and needs.

The last time the democrat party had a genuine left-wing populist presidential candidate, he won so many elections in landslide after landslide that they passed a constitutional amendment just to stop him from running for office again.
The democrats have not had a genuine appetite for victory ever since FDR. They're not trying to earn our votes. They've skated by on being the "lesser evil" for so long that people finally woke up and realized that "lesser evil" is still too much evil.
