Anti-vaxxers always minimize COVID and the harm it causes to people’s health. So when they talk about people being “injured” from the mRNA vaccines, I always assume the injury was caused by Covid. So many people died from COVID, and the actual numbers are drastically under reported.

This is just so disingenuous. To “personally know” someone means you have met them, have talked with them, and in this sort of context, that you can bear witness to This Thing That Happened and its effects.

To “know of” someone means you’ve heard of them, but you’ve never actually met — and unless they also happen to “know of” you, if you did actually meet they wouldn’t know you from Adam. You cannot bear personal witness to anything they’ve not disclosed to the public.

“I personally know of [person]” is a contradiction in terms. It’s a linguistic machination designed to do two things: 1.) Imply a sort of personal closeness where none actually exists. 2.) Give a rhetorical exit in case someone starts asking for details.
