I also have a degree in English Literature! I watch everything with subtitles because I have no focus but I read fast.

Minored in english lit - subtitles are great when done right, and I still can't remember the plot unless I binge watch.
It's honestly really upsetting. I hate what this has done to my brain.
Every day, I am amazingly tempted to chuck the laptop into the desk drawer and not use it for a while. I did it for four months in 2000. I didn't use the computer at all today until I got to work, and no social media until almost 2 pm and then to remove posts for an hour. It was freeing.
I need to suck it up and do it. Like make my husband lock it away or something. It's an addiction.
I do it to communicate with friends the most, but sometimes - damn. Here in Bluesky is like early 2000s internet - a much better world.
Oh how I miss message boards and AIM! I give anything to have a little box on my screen, in my dedicated computer room, flashing vague John Mayer lyrics while I was gone. We didn't know what we had.
MSN Groups. And then Yahoo! Answers R&S in 1998 thought the early 2000s. and AAWC OMG we were such assholes in R&S, but I have lifelong friends because of it. People I have welcomed into my home, people who have welcomed me into their homes, even brought me cheese from a dairy in Kansas I love.
Word! I used to travel with people I met. My family thought I was insane. But it was magical.
Same! We had a whole bunch of people come hang for a weekend in 2000 - it was amazing. Not sure if I would do the same like that now.
Yeah it's bleak. I still meet up with people IRL that I've "met" online but now it's people that I'm at least connected to, like on a PTO or something.
Also, they mess up the mix, it's hard to hear them if you want exactly what they're saying, which I do. That also might be the lack of focus from the ADHD too, but the mix makes it worse.
ME TOO 😂
