YIKES. This is bad. This video is being used as “training” for law enforcement, which shows an officer having the *exact opposite* of a fentanyl overdose after finding a dollar bill on a suspect, & *asking for Narcan* multiple times. “Field testing” 🙄aside, most currency would test positive for fent

This is clearly some kind of panic attack, not a drug overdose. If these cops aren't faking, they're succumbing to hysteria. Fentanyl is dangerous - but not in this way.

Very nice. As an outpatient resident clinic supervisor, I had considerably worse experiences with what I THINK were some sort of mandated physician visits. We were in a outer suburb and got cops from the city PD who had very generic medical "clearance" paperwork to be done... (1/6)

aug 2, 2025, 1:41 am • 3 0 • view
avatar
Doctor The Frog @skipbidder.bsky.social

It didn't tell us what they were being cleared for or why. The cops were unwilling to give further information and were essentially unresponsive to any history questions. I had 5 or 6 in about 3 months (and there were other preceptors as well, so likely at least twice that many total)... (2/6)

aug 2, 2025, 1:41 am • 2 0 • view
avatar
Doctor The Frog @skipbidder.bsky.social

It really felt like these were mandated for some sort of issue that the cops (or their union) decided that they didn't want to participate in and agreed to just come to a resident clinic because they would be less likely to face resistance... (3/6)

aug 2, 2025, 1:41 am • 2 0 • view
avatar
Doctor The Frog @skipbidder.bsky.social

That's just my projection, perhaps. Maybe it's just the universal douchebaggery of cops in general I was noticing. But I had some suspicion that these were something like DV, or weapon discharge, or misconduct cases with mandated physician visits. All men, even though the department wasn't. (4/6)

avatar
Doctor The Frog @skipbidder.bsky.social

I expressed concern about these in a staff meeting on behalf of the residents and our other patients. The trainee docs (and me) weren't comfortable signing off on blanket clearance for something we weren't even informed about. And other patients weren't thrilled about cops in the waiting room. (5/6)

Not sure if the practice manager actually made some calls, but we stopped getting these appointments. I wish I'd asked her if she did something (and how she managed it). They were some of the least pleasant precepting experiences I had. Jerk cops and uncomfortable resident physicians. (6/6)

Dear @patrickdotweb.bsky.social : Stop repeating garbage copoganda. That’s NOT how fentanyl works, period. A better story to report would be why your local cops are this misguided.

Oh, they'll absolutely use it on people who needs it. Rapid-fire. Because there's no possible down side to putting someone in OD into sudden and near-complete withdrawal, right?

My state will send free narcan to anyone who requests it. 2 doses per request. We have an Airbnb space and I’m also going to put together a first aid kit with it in it to keep with me. Because you never know what situation you may run across. But those cop parodies are damaging public education.

Berkeley County, SC is hardly surprising for this bs. They're notorious for being over dramatic and loving being on camera (like for when they were on COPS or whatever similar show, etc).

When I lived in N. Charleston I worked in Goose Creek (in Berkeley Cty), they'd roll out like 20 cruisers for a ship lifter at Walmart 🙄 The Charleston area in general is heavily policed, disproportionately by neighborhood/demographic, one of those perfect examples of why policing isn't "working".😡

(oh god I watched the video, listening to the lady who got pulled over shouting "why does she need narcan!?!?" confused over it all 😆😆😆 it's actually funny if you can get past how badly informed the officers are)

If you can ask for narcan, you do not need narcan. (Unless you need it to administer to someone else, who is not conscious and talking). Also, as usual, the person they arrested had waaaaay more exposure, and was totally fine. Must be the special fentanyl that only affects cops.

"Fentanyl" is an incantation that creates terror in cops. Same deal as the Knights Who Say Ni.
