CBS has had many misadventures in the morning, but one of its biggest flops was, for me, one of the best ideas it ever had: THE MORNING PROGRAM. It was basically Regis and Kathie Lee but with more news and some sidekicks (including Saget!). I loved watching before school. youtu.be/6NH1RfgzB5g?...

Yes - I've collected TV tickets since I was a kid. Always thought they were a really neat thing to have.

I loved this too. I believe this was where Mark McEwen began his decades as the CBS weather guy.

I believe Bob Saget was unable to do the Full House pilot (even tho producers wanted him to play Danny) bc he was filming this show. Jon Posey was thus the original Danny. Once Bob got fired from The Morning Program they quickly fired Posey and reshot the pilot w Bob, and the rest was history

FX also tried this format (with less new) a few years later with BREAKFAST TIME, which was also awesome. Make mornings weird again, I say.

I loved (and truly miss) the markets that had irreverent morning news programs. For example, WMAQ in Chicago had "First Thing in the Morning", while WJZ in Baltimore had "Rise and Shine".

The best. I actually got to talk to him when he hosted People are Talking for WBZ in Boston before FX. Just the nicest guy.

I swear, the original version of fX was the best. Live programming throughout the day with a classic TV lineup to rival Nick at Nite. Brilliant times before it became "FOX GONE CABLE." Still livid I never got one of those fX pencils.

I've thought that a loose, late night take similar to "Breakfast Time" would likely do pretty well and more importantly, be very cheap.

They interviewed me - twice - to do the sports segment. From LA. Or NY. No, LA. No, never mind

I imagine the show was likely a mess behind the scenes, and I’m sure the CBS News folks loathed it. But honestly, it feels almost Murrow-like in comparison to what the networks do in the morning now.
