I know there are quotes like it, but it's so simple and so lacking in big, flowery thematic gestures. It is simply protecting the people that need it. That one line GETS the "why" of Superman.

Ya know who else, surprisingly, really gets a key thing about Superman? Jerry Seinfeld. Those lengthy American Express ads he did with him palling around with Superman hit on an essential aspect of the character - that he IS someone you'd want to just hang around with.
