The Kings were like “nah we don’t want RFA leverage with Keon Ellis” and then spent the rest of the summer being held captive by the Warriors using RFA leverage. What a gift they gave Keon.

The Kings front office out thinking the league every summer
Is Vivek the worst owner in the NBA? I just assume he’s Jerry Jones-ing this shit, since every single GM he’s hired makes the same asinine decisions
He's definitely low on the list but as long as Nico Harrison has a job he kind of hugs up all the... What's the opposite of superlatives?
Jerry Reinsdorf no question worst owner in NBA
They completely screwed Keon this season by being cheap-asses, but Keon should get a real nice payday out of it after this year.
Scott Perry completely misjudged this offseason free agency. First Keon, then an overpay for Dennis, and now stuck in the mud with the Kuminga situation. Not a good look for what's supposed to be an experience GM. Maybe the league doesn't work the way he remembers it?
Not extending Keon early is smart; would’ve limited anything they could do this off-season. Can still extend him in Feb. Pacers lost Myles Turner because of extending Nembhard early. Schroeder may be an overpay; but can’t judge until he PLAYS. Blaming Perry for Warriors Kuminga shit show is BS.
Disagree, it wasn’t an extension choice for Keon. It was a choice between RFA and UFA, and they chose the later. The market now shows they likely could have retained him in the cheap. That was a mistake by Perry.

Exactly. Had they not, he would have been a RFA this summer and the Kings could have matched any offer in a very depressed market. Now, they run the risk of him hitting UFA next summer and leaving for nothing. Thus the "surprisingly" in the title of that article. It was a dumb move.
And if they have something in place with Ellis it’s a win for Kings with more flexibility to do things this off-season. If so, It’s not dumb. It’s smart, but we don’t have the information so I will not make a judgment when I don’t have the information needed to do so yet.
Flexibility to do what this offseason? sign Dennis, McDermott, and Eubanks? The offseason is nearly over. The Kings could have done all that AND re-signed Keon in RFA since they had his rights, but that ship has sailed.
I don’t understand judging things before they play out; you can’t argue both sides of the coin - you say it’s a depressed market, which means Kings could could extend him February 9 for a very good price? The other unknown is for all we know they have an agreement in place with Ellis already.
Extending him, if Keon wants that, will now cost more as evidenced by the depressed RFA market this passed summer. Keon now has leverage of UFA next summer to up his asking price on an extension. If an agreement is in place, then what's the wait? Same goes for Keegan. Won't kick in till 26-27 anyway
Choice was picking up his option or not. By picking up his option it gave Kings flexibility to sign / trade for players now that they wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise. Kings can still sign Keon to extension Feb 9. You may be right, but judging now doesn’t make sense; judge after it plays out.
Honestly it’s what I’m most pissed about and finding it the hardest to get over
Me, too.
There’s a chance they can still extend him mid season, but if they’re complete dog shit in February, he could easily say “nah I’ll wait a couple more months”
