For some reason I phrased it way more delicately than I really think is the case. :)
The Greens win votes to the left of Labor (and from Labor's left) and so while they oppose the LNP, they position themselves relative to Labor. For very obvious reasons, then, Labor don't want to give the Greens the appearance of being effective.
