As much as we would like to blame this disaster on climate change, it looks more like human error.
Climate change has altered the weather in CA. Winter storms are often harsher, dumping a lot of rain in short bursts. Summers are longer and hotter. That combo makes for more and drier brush that fuels wildfires.
We used to have good scientists who explained things in clear language. "We did an experiment. Here is the result. Here is what we learned." That kind of precision never applies to climate science. People say "look it up yourself" or some vague assertion that things are just different now.
Same around the rivers and valleys in western NC... although the don't have the wealth that SoCal has.
