Even Dr. Seuss knew what that slogan actually meant...

Those objecting to the linkage between Fascism & Communism (claiming that a careful study would wholly distinguish them) haven't studied the history, just the claimed workings. Stalin's bodycount was higher, and so, probably, was Mao's. Pol Pot did his best also, given his limited base.

Weird that he grouped communists and fascists together, but other than that, spot on.

Our thoughts exactly- not gonna share that one there’s already enough ignorance about socialism, communism, and fascism people need to educate themselves.

Communists as in Stalin's Russia featuring a non-aggression pact with the Nazis. There wasn't a lot of practical difference between dictators at the time.

It's why Hanna Arendt wrote about "totalitarian regimes." The ideology may vary dramatically, but, in practice, there's vast common ground from one dictatorial police state to the next.

In real life - so far - fascist and communist central governments have ended up looking very similar. A horseshoe-shaped behavior curve, where the tips end up quite close together.

That's just how authoritarianism works.

So, "grouping Fascism and Communism together" wasn't so weird, given how similar their effects were?

Can we *not* get into this? Because the "they're both equally bad" shtick is how we got here. And if you continue with this line, I will just block you.

There are good socialist policies - we'd do well as a nation to adopt more of them. Socialism has merit. Communism is based on a lot of attractive, altruistic ideals. The reality of it as a single-party national govt to date has been really bad for nations that have gone that route. Not debatable.

Sure. I'm not going to defend that. Just like I'm not defending the Soviet Union. But there's no point in discussing the relative merits of fascism vs. communism, especially when discussing a country where fascism is entrenched, while there hasn't been any real kind of communism for a century.
