How do those guns help them pick up trash?
The irony The good guys with the guns picking trash The bad guy with the gun at the church, near no black, brown, trans, or poor people to give the good guys a clue he was comin'
I don’t know if this is still the case, but it used to be that many units weren’t equipped or trained with pistols (at least field artillery circa 2006)
I remember seeing multiple soldiers (not sure if they were with the National Guard) armed with some serious rifles deployed inside the terminals at BWI when I flew in and out of there in mid-October 2001. It was a startling sight.
The Washington Post says it was the Maryland National Guard. "At President Bush's request, about 5,000 National Guard soldiers are being deployed to 442 commercial airports nationwide after receiving special security training from the Federal Aviation Administration."
Same at the big NYC stations - I think you can still today see rifle-carrying Guard at places like Penn from time to time. But the saps stuck on subway duty tend to only have sidearms.
Saw carbines down in DuPont circle metro today!
Folks should be asking "who are those for" every time they pass by 😵💫
During the height of terrorist attacks there were also police (not military) personell with machine guns here in Germany, patrolling public places, air ports, train stations. But they got quickly recalled. They were not used as an instrument to intimidate political enemies.
Surely they don't need long guns to pick up trash?
They can pick themselves up while holding an M4? Almost impressive.
Attach a bayonet to it and give them a bucket?
They had these when they were stationed in Los Angeles earlier this year
*long guns in DC.
I remember seeing them with M4s as a kid in Penn Station for a couple years after 9/11, before transitioning to sidearms and then going away.
Huh. I wonder what they were up to? There’s only been a handful of guard deployments I’ve seen (Sept 11, BLM, Jan 6) but I could well have missed one.
