I think you and I are the same age, or within a year. I grew up here and got no info about LGBTQ stuff (except HIV, as you said). If I had gotten info about being trans when I was 13-14? My life would likely have gone entirely differently. That's why I get fired up about this. (not at you, obvs)
I grew up in the Chicago area. My trans nibling went to the same high school I did, three decades later, and had a much more inclusive experience--there is even a SAGA now.
