I often have a love/hate relationship with hip hop and it’s often difficult to critique it without coming off as a 🦝 or an unc but it is very obvious how the record industry suppresses artists with a radical message in favor of pro capitalist records about getting paper

Shiny suit era was probably the worst thing to happen to hip hop, all that shit de-radicalized the black community and now everyone is overly individualized and worried about getting the bag, doesn’t matter what u gotta to to get the bag just get it

a few decades ago if a rapper was seen on TV with a republican president that would be the end of their musical career now Nelly and Snoop can publicly support a president who cost thousands of black women their jobs and people excuse it with “hey they got paid”

The way hip hop was used to convince us to worship money and capitalism was so obvious shit just hurts to see it And I’m not saying I’m better than that, I listen to mainstream rap all the time despite my political leanings because sometimes the music just bumps, but it still sucks

I just try to balance it out by also listening to more underground and radical hip hop too
