I haven't been able to figure out the root source yet, but last week my laptop had a handful of updates and since then my Firefox browser has been painfully slow.

It might be the ai chat sidebar. Try disabling it, if you haven’t already, by going to “about:config” then set “browser.ml.chat.enabled” to false.
