A few years ago, I spent my birthday playing Rock Band 4 all day with my mom and nieces. One of my nieces was having trouble with the drums; so, my stepbrother help by pounding on the kick pedal. A ton of fun!
One of my favorites: When I was 6 years old, my little sister and I were sent to our rooms for nap time. Instead of napping I turned on my NES and played Mega Man 3. TV volume was at 0 so nobody could hear me. Many minutes later, I hear the door open, turn around and it's my mom.
She was shocked to see I wasn't napping and I thought I was in trouble. We locked eyes for a good 10-15 seconds in silence. She then puts her finger to her lips as a sign for me to keep quiet, slowly shuts my door and back to Mega Man 3 I went.

Play video games with my Dad I hold those times very dear.
First spaceflight to Dezoris in Phantasy Star. Was a HUGE hassle getting all the things I needed, especially that robot, but dang if it wasn't worth it to finally see the mysterious third planet.
Favorite? Childhood? Might be the day I finally put an old ghost to rest and was able to beat Contra and Zelda 2 w/o any kind of cheat, Game Genie code, or training wheels.
eating chicken flavoured 2 minute noodles with apple juice playing Jak & Daxter, such a vibe. Add in some Panic at the Disco and it gets even better
Probably playing Mario Kart battle mode with my grandma as a kid, or Snow Bros. Freeway with my mum? All the Hexen with my Step-dad, or the epic tetrisphere rounds with my mum
One of my earliest SNES games was Star Fox way back when it was brand new. One day after beating it I got distracted and left it running. About 5~10 minutes later I suddenly hear music...??? I discovered that Star Fox plays a little tune if you let it sit on "THE END" for a number of minutes! :o
Me, my brother and cousin would stock up on caffeinated sodas and snacks and stay up all night playing tecmo super bowl 🏈. We would play our music and eat snacks and talk trash. We would each play as a team to see who could put up the best stats. Great memories. 🎮
There's a bunch, but one that pops into mind is hanging out at @andrewsheeler.bsky.social 's place and playing FF7 until... 4am? Dawn? I didn't sleep and played all the way to escaping Midgar, then I don't remember if I passed out, had breakfast, or passed out and then woke up to have breakfast.

My mom bought my dad a ps4 when I was little. I’d pick out games but I didn’t want to figure it out myself, I wanted to watch him play it almost like a movie! One of my earliest memories is watching him play something to do with Nickelodeon. I forget what it was called. He played that for me. ❤️

I saved up for AGES to buy an N64. We went to pick it up, along with Ocarina of Time, from Electronics Boutique after lunch at my Grandma's. I couldn't wait to get home and set it all up (I wasn't usually in a rush to leave grandma's) I remember switching OoT on at home. It blew my friggin' mind.
Favourite gaming memory, Playing Sonic 2 on my Mega Drive II as part of a birthday as a Mini Emeralds 🥹 and just didn't stop smiling, the joy it gave me from the zones to the Special Stages and of course Tails was unrivalled and made Tails my all time favourite character and the gamer I am today 🥹
I had a neighbor buddy that I basically lived at his house and spent time with his fam Everyday after school we'd play Bubble Bobble on the NES gunning for the true ending. After a couple years of this we finally got it and it was HYPE
Any time I got to play with friends. It was difficult to set up a time and asking for permission and all that. Also, watching tv about video games was rare because of cable, plus reading gaming magazines was great. Loved looking through all of it.
I have many lol. So I'll go with this... Before we moved I had a friend that lived a few houses up the street and I'd go to his house to play SNES. We found the alternate route to Bowser's castle in SMW one day and it legit blew our 5yo minds. Like wym you can just skip half the game?! Sorcery!
Watching my mom play asteroids. Woman was unstoppable and it was honestly wild to watch. We would all "take turns" playing and she was always last lol but she'd play for a while, and at some point just let us play with the lives she had left! She was too good man 😊
Going to my best friend’s house with a Game Genie (anyone remember those?) and playing Twisted Metal with unlimited ricochet bombs. We’d start a level, spam shoot as many bombs out as we could the first few seconds, then drive around trying not to die. It was stupidly fun

Oh this is tough. - Goldeneye at my cousins on N64. -Beating FFVIII on my own. A big one for me though is me and my brother watching my Dad demolish Final Fantasy X. His save file was legendary
Cool. Here's one of mine. My Nana gave the money for an SNES and a copy of Sim City. My parents were painting, so I couldn't move around the house all that much, so I pretty much just played it all weekend. It kept me out of the way 😂 I still remember every time I hear the music from that game.
I very distinctly remember discovering the original Rampage arcade game back in the 80s. It was on the second floor of a 2-story Chuck E. Cheese in Washington. I spent almost the entire party playing it. It's been my favorite arcade cabinet ever since. Probably the start of my love of kaiju too.
So good! All the remakes/reboots have paled in comparison to the original.
Yeah. Still my favorite, but that doesn't stop me from playing the newer ones if I see them.
One night my dad brought out a Pong console out of nowhere and fiddled with it until he got it working and we all played for a while as a family. Going to Toys 'R Us to get a new NES game and reading the booklet on the way home. Going over to friends' houses to play NES or Sega Genesis together.
Many playing NES Super Mario Bros with my friend but getting the turtle shell just right at the end of 3-1 to get 100 'free guys' is notable. Took a lot of tries.
I rented Castlevania IV once and had some friends over and showed them a secret area that had a ghostly old man with a ghost dog that attacked me. so I whipped it and it died. The ghost man started crying and my friends got mad at me for hurting the dog even though the dog attacked me first!!
Getting my first PS1. I had many console before this one, but my Dad and I would play Gran Turismo and the NFS games, for HOURS. He may not have liked FF or Shining Force, Zelda and Mario, but he was a mechanic so GT was irresistible. I will always cherish those times. May he rest in (horse)power 💙🏎

Playing Grand Prix and Adventure on the Atari 2600! I also remember how amazed I was the first time I watched my older brother play Ecco the dolphin, the game was like nothing else at the time and the start of the game where Ecco’s family gets whooshed away was :O
I enjoyed playing split-screen multiplayer games with friends in the same room. Shooting, Racing, etc. I was letdown when companies moved away from that. I can play online with my friends now. Sure. We all have our headphones, Bluetooths, streams, and chat windows but… it’s all very different…
Two memories I want to share (these are very old): I was around 6 years old and each Saturday morning I called my aunt to ask them if I could come over to play on their Commodore 64 (with 5,25 inch floppy), mostly Terminator 2 and Rambo 2 (I think), with a menu for unlimited lives 😅
Second one: I was around 8 / 9 years and then we could watch F1 on TV ( for free). We owned an Amiga 500 and had Grand Prix on it. Each Sunday before the race, my older brother, his friends and I (total of 10) played (taking turns and change the names of course) and tried to predict who would win.
Dad taking me to some kind of StarFox preview event. The kicker? It took place at a movie theater and we got to play on a gigantic screen. In 1993 when TV's were probably less than 25", this was brain melting 😱
Gaming helped me learn English. I used to play a lot of Sierra games (Kings Quest, Space Quest etc) and they helped me learn the language (I am from Germany originally). I used to write down notes on what the villagers in Zelda II would say and asked my mom to translate.
There was a bundle that came out for Christmas one year. My father surprised us (3 of us) with it. Dad played Duck Hunt with us. He passed away from cancer when I was 12, but I will never forget the laughs that we all shared with this game. One of my favorite childhood memories.
Another: My mom is who got me into gaming and she was not a gamer. She fell down a flight of concrete steps and her arm went through a glass window. After 21 surgeries and a fused middle finger bone, the doc told her she would never get muscles back in that hand. Going home she stopped...
...and bought The Super Nintendo that came with Super Mario Bros. She would play and then call me in when she reached a part should couldn't do. I quote, "Stupid game meant for kids!" We played a lot together. A year later she went to Doc. and he was stunned to see she had muscle growth...
...He asked how she did it and all she said was video games (A novel idea for a hand doctor in the 90s). After that he prescribed video games to a lot of his patients. He would thank he a lot after that. I hold those memories of gaming together very close to my heart.
Silent Hill 4. Friend was over to watch me play cause it was too scary for them. Was in a hospital and went into a room. All you could see was yourself walk in but you knew something was on the other side of the room because of the breathing. Took 2 steps and saw this. Both jumped out of our skins.
...and I mean we jumped. He went from the floor to the bed and I went from the bed to my feet on the bed. It did nothing but exist in the space but it scared the hell out of us. We still laugh about it to this day.
Mmmm...so many of them but one definitely would be jamming on Bionic Commando during a sleepover at a buddies house and when we got to the end battle he yells out "THE BAD GUY IS FUCKING HITLER?" and we hear his mom yell out "WHAT DID YOU SAY!?" Right to bed, no shenanigans lol.
there are many fond memories, but i really hold dear when i got devil may cry and my sister who really doesn't get video games would spend the whole game sitting with me and discussing what to do and theorizing about the game. it's become a tradition we have kept going with each dmc game!
Beating Bayou Billy, even if it was with a Game Genie. That game is fucking difficult!!!

Finding Elite with a friend, on one of the discs his dad had for his BBC Master. We spent hundreds of hours playing that game, more than his dad ever did. We never got to Elite. 😅
My siblings and I were playing Psychonauts on ye olde PS2 when my mom happened to come into the room and needed to get something. As she bent down near the console, the G-men from the milkman level said "Look at that woman's breasts, they are large" The way she SHOT UP and tried not to laugh

Pokemon Blue/Red. I got Blue, grandad got Red. He asked my mum to bring me round so he could help me fill my dex. I was 10, and he was very shocked to see that I already had 112 Pokemon, only 6 badges, trying to get the 'vegetable duck'. 🤣 We completed every dex together until 2 years ago.
What got me into gaming to begin with, my single hard working mom always did the best she could for me. This included trying to keep me up with games. When the NES came out, it was new and exciting and she wanted to try it as much as I did. When she had the money, she got it and mario bros 1/2
It had been out a couple years, I was around 4-5 years old, so one of my early memories. We got it home, hooked it up and played Mario all night long. One of the first times she had ever let me be up late like that. We beat Mario, taking turns each death, after a whole night of playing. 2/2
My favourite gaming memories of my childhood centre around my best friend since we were in diapers. From Blades of Steel and TMNT II on the NES, to Pokemon Stadium and GoldenEye on the N64 and all night sessions of Smash Bros, we used to have tons of fun gaming together. And we still do to this day!

For me, so many. Typing in listings with my dad that never seemed to work, playing Myst and getting lost in another world, filling a notebook with puzzles and figuring in Riven, building a PC with my dad and friends, that first opening of Wing Commander with full screen animation, so much.
Years ago my Dad was a technician for the local swimming pool and every Christmas Day he would check on things for a couple of hours while the building was closed. One year I went with him and he gave me the keys to the arcade machines to play while he worked. I played this with unlimited credits!
When I was a kid in the 80s, I'd collect aluminum cans and after a couple weeks I'd take them to the recycling place that was in the parking lot of the grocery store next to my house. I'd take the cash and go into the store, exchange it for quarters, and play whatever games they had at the time.
Beating my older brother AND his friends at Crash Team Racing. It's a small thing but the middle-schooler beating three high-schoolers was a feeling I held onto for weeks.
Can’t say it’s a favorite but must’ve been 97? Me my brother and Dad went to a seaside resort town and my brother got hurt and a big storm hit, we ended up spending a night in the hotel, fortunately we’d packed the PlayStation- played RE1 Directors Cut on a black and white Telly through the storm.
We went to Showbiz Pizza in a terrible snowstorm to celebrate my brother's birthday and were pretty much the only ones there. The staff gave us a bunch of free tokens. I discovered and then spent a long time playing Peter Pack-Rat, still one of my favorite arcade games ever!
It largely hinges on either Sonic Adventure or Soul Caliber on the Sega Dreamcast. Especially when my eldest brother would visit the house.
Literally running home from primary school to play The Lost Vikings with my big brother. Getting the SNES set up for him to come home from work so we could start straight away.
One of my favorite ones that comes to mind is in Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, when you go to space and it turns out one of the moons is fake. It’s a goofy and fun game on the whole but “this moon is actually a space station with a big picture of a moon on it” really got me.
Beating Super Mario World with my Sister at our Grandma's house is a core memory for sure. It took us forever, but we always took turns on each world and it was the only game we ever played together as kids
Mine would probably be when my Dad got me a Sega CD and seeing video footage used on a home video game console. Ground Zero Texas blew my mind. I still play Dune on my Sega CDX.
Playing and beating Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II on NES in co-op at a friends house felt like a god-tier achievement at the time. We laughed, yelled and cried and did our very best. We came through at the end and I felt I was at the very peak of my gaming skills. In hindsight, I was. 🤣
I remember being a depressed and angry 9 year old, seeing The World Ends with You, seeing it at a rental store, and playing it a bit and then putting it down. As a teen I got my hands on it again and actually beat it and that really helped my mental health.
Game has a whole message and letting the "Noise" of the world in and your perception of the world is only as large as you let it be. As a kid I never got that far but it was fun and a good distraction, as a teen it taught me something. Makes me tear up thinking about it.

Playing Journey Escape on the Atari 2600 while at my dad's house. He'd picked it up at a garage sale and omg I played that game CONSTANTLY. Thinking back on it, that might be why I've always really loved Journey. 🤔

Being washed in the kitchen sink while my brothers played gran truismo 2! While an odd memory, and one of the oldest ones I can recall, it justs sits at the back of the mind as a comfort memory
I have a few but this one is special. I was 16 and working when ps2 was announced. I paid off the pre order for it slowly before release. Was a midnight release and my dad went with me to make sure I got it and we got home safely. Its a happy memory of my dad showing he cared and supportive.

My favorite gaming memory, or at least one of them, has to be finding Toontown Online as a kid. There's a damn reason Dusty BumbleJinks still appears in my videos, despite being nearly 20 years old. Even if the fanmade revivals have gone downhill recently.
My funniest. I was playing res 3 with my friends and we got stuck trying to open the clock tower. None of us knew what Kronos was, we were stuck for hours.
So many it's hard to pick just one, but packing up the N64 and Perfect Dark going over to friends' places for some all night gaming shenanigans definitely stands out
I don't know if I would call it a "favorite" memory. But I'll never forget the fun I had back in the NES days with the Game Genie. I had so much fun trying to create my own codes for games and seeing what type of effect it might cause. I got some pretty wacky results in Snow Bros. Great times. 😁
When I was 5 my dad got me a Nintendo DS, and I spent the entire day dying to goombas in New Super Mario Bros 😂

Was more like teen but I bought a GameCube, and each of my friends had its own controller. Smash and Mario kart were legendary. Also, three of us had a gameboy so we managed to play Zelda fours swords the way it was meant to be played! Super expensive!
My core memory is 5 years old receiving a pink game boy color bc my parents lived 9 hours apart on a road trip. It’s one of my only memories at 5!
I don't know if I have a favorite but one of my favorites has to be. When my older brother was playing Resident Evil on PS1 where the dog jumps out of the glass. An all of my cousins were piled on the bed and fell off when it happened. Since they all jumped when it happened.
Pac-Man World 2 blew my mind back when I was a kid because of its 3D graphics and environment and the PS2 was ahead of its time back then
Playing the original Zelda with my mom at NES and her breaking down and calling the Nintendo hotline to help beat a part of the game lol
Going to a pokemon tournament with my best friend aged 10. Desperately trying to get my team to level 100 before arriving, failing and then using the rare candy trick.
Oh, and a more recent one! Watching my son get the true ending on Hollow Knight, and the look of joy and triumph on his face when he dealt the final blow, was every bit as much a thrill as the day I beat it myself. 😁
I'm 6 years older than my little brother and he's 5 years older than my littler sister. Playing Nintendo growing up, he was there by my side watching when I beat Zelda, Zelda II, and Link to the Past. We played together a lot, but he loved to watch me play the harder / story games.
After I moved away to college, my bro & sis played together the same way. She grew up to him play Ocarina of Time, and had the same fond Zelda memories. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of watching her walk down the aisle while the Fairy Queen's theme played. Gaming is part of our history. 😊
The day I finally beat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES, my brother and I jumped up screaming in disbelief and joy, capering around the room like lunatics while we celebrated. My dad came charging into the room convinced we were being assaulted by a swarm of wasps that had clearly broken in.
My mom and I played video games together when I was young. She played SMB1 and Bubble Bobble with me on the NES. She wasn't very good but still. In the SNES days, she actually bought Bust-A-Move for herself and I'd watch her play that for hours. I still have her copy of that game in my collection.
When my brother and I spent the afternoon playing tenchu (in Japanese and in black&white because a friend downloaded and burned it for us and it was in NTSC not pal, this was year '96-97?)we fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the night to see my dad and uncle still playing 🤣
Watching my older sister beat OG Resident Evil 2 on Claire's A Scenario. Resident Evil games were one of the main ways that me and my sister bonded when we were growing up, and we were very happy to see the end of Claire's journey. I imagine this is one reason why I still look up to this character.
Beating the TMNT arcade game with my brother at our favorite game room when we lived in Korea in 1990. The place was nearly empty when we got there, but the afternoon crowd that trickled in while we were playing surrounded the cabinet to watch by the time we defeated Shredder.
My mom, little brother, and I used to play Crash 2 on the OG Playstation. My mom was FINALLY able to beat Tiny after multiple attempts and as we celebrated, I remembered that we didn't have a memory card. She told my dad, "Don't touch my game", drove us to Gamestop, and bought TWO memory cards 🤣
Another would have to be when my friends and I would go after school on Fridays to the arcade to play Street Fighter 2 - the umpteenth variations, Mortal Kombat and a shit ton of other arcade games. I loved the social and competitive atmosphere like we were at a tournament every week.
Probably when I first plugged in and turned on my brand new SEGA Genesis with altered beasts and heard “rise from your grave” - I was completely blown away by this. lol. My friends and I could not believe there was voice sampling in the game and how good it was.
That was a great memory for me too. It was so cool!
It sounds silly now, but yeah - that was some amazing tech back then. lol.
Lets not forget the original Space Harrier, hearing "Welcome to the Fantasy Zone" on the Sega Master System was so cool.
And those 3-D glasses on the master system were incredible - which were apparently designed by Mark Cerny who is known as the current designer of the PS consoles.

Probably getting Chrono Trigger on the Christmas of 95 on SNES. Our Mom would always let us open 1 present on Christmas Eve, and I would always feel out the present for a game. Managed to open Chrono Trigger and almost stayed up all night playing. Got all the way to 2300 AD

In 2001 I was looking through a gaming mag with a friend and we saw the first screenshots of the remake of Resident Evil for Gamecube and we couldn't believe our eyes. How could they make a game look so amazing in just the 5 short years between the OG and the remake? Now that was a jump.

I vividly remember the first time I happened upon Resident Evil. I was around 8. My brother's friend was playing RE4 at their family's cottage, I caught a glimpse through the window. I begged my brother to ask him to show me the game. He did. And since then, it's been one of my most favorite series.

I rented Banjo Kazooie and loved it so much I wanted to buy it. I delivered newspapers but I was sad because I was far off from having enough money to buy it but when I looked i realized that I did! I found out later that my sister added money to my savings thing so I’d have enough
Couple here and there: - Going through Gears 2 co op with cousin - Having my deadbeat old man get me AC: wild world - Being able to finally purchase Banjo tooie at blockbuster with a B2G1 deal - Playing double dragon 3 with my old bestie, final boss keeps kicking our ass (never did win)
Truth be told, most of my best memories involved watching my cousins play a game I couldn't own myself yet, like Crash Warped, Mega Man X/X4, Mario World, 007, Mario 64, Kirby 64 etc. I'd spend so much time daydreaming about those games afterward.
My little sister used to watch me play Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, and after finishing whatever quest I was doing in earnest, we'd fire up the Scroll of Icarian Flight and launch my player character across the map, or start big fights we had no chance of winning, and she thought it was hilarious.
The first that came to mind was a Smash 64 moment. As Mario, when I tried to hop back on the Star Fox stage, my friend who used Donkey Kong decided to jump off the whole damn stage to do a hilarious downward punch to kill me. All 4 of us had to pause the game from laughing so hard.
Honestly it’s still when my mom got me the PS2. We didn’t have much money and were at the mall and she just.. bought it for us. We went home and played in the basement, Spyro if I remember right. I miss her. The second was watching my wife become a gamer playing Ocarina Of Time.

Just saw this post. My favorite gaming memory from my childhood is beating the train level in Goldeneye 007 on 00 Agent difficulty. I failed so many times I was about to give up...then I had a dream of walking into the final car, shooting Xenia and being able to complete the mission. It worked!
The Wipeout games defined my childhood!
Realising that if I started loading Chuckie Egg (on my Amstrad) the moment I got up, I could get a solid 15 mins of gaming in before leaving for school.
in my childhood i only had sega and idk maybe 7-8 games but it was so nice and cozy to get from school and to play while parents said stooop it already it's bad for ur eyes nooooooooo turn it off and so on. aww sweet memories my favs are here comix zone is love
Birthday parties as a kid where I would have all my friends sleepover and we would play games like Smash Bros and Mario Kart all night. I miss when life was simple like that
My first ever memory of life is sitting on my father's lap while he plays Yoshi's Island on the SNES. My favourite memory is finishing FFX with my younger brother and dad and all 3 of us just sitting there crying, trying to hide it from each other then realizing all of us were crying.
WCW/nWo Revenge with my cousin and I going for the WCW Tag Titles with my uncle, drunk off his ass, cheering us on.
I remember unwrapping a PS2 under the Christmas tree. For a home console, it sure moved a lot We got it shortly after my parents divorced and I bounced around a lot between houses But it made my dad’s new apartment feel less empty It made meeting his new GF who played kingdom hearts w us less-
scary It made sleepovers at my grandparents who baby sat for us feel like an extension of my own home It’s not just one memory but a decades worth of comfort when comfort was often in short supply

My dad always told me that games like FINAL FANTASY were too advanced for me because I was too young and couldn’t read at a high enough level. Fast forward a year or so, and I’ve hit the books, worked hard in school and can now read at a 5th grade level at age 7 and could finally play! ✨
The first time I ever got stuck in a video game was picking my starter in pokemon yellow. Because I was 6 and didn’t know how to read. My parents gave me a guide and in one weekend I came back to school knowing how to read. For a developmentally slow autistic person this was significant.
So many. Getting the RYNO in ratchet and clank for the first time. Renting def jam fight for new York and discovering it was in fact a classic. Not realizing G.O.A.T. meant the hardest difficulty in And1 and me and my bro got the shit kicked out of us. Playing demo disk on the ps2
Probably coming home from trick-or-treating on Halloween ‘05 to find my dad unboxing a GameCube. I started excitedly poring over the copy of Wind Waker he bought with it (my first Zelda!) before being told that I couldn’t play that night because it was late and I needed to go to bed 😭
Honorable mention to seeing the intro to Kingdom Hearts for the 1st time. I grew up listening to whatever my folks played (country music), so when I tell you that Simple and Clean altered my worldview, I mean it. I didn’t even know music could sound like that. NTM the best 3D graphics I’d ever seen.
Back in middle school my friend brought his GameShark with Pokemon Crystal to school, I asked if I could get a shiny Mew, which I did. And like right after the route into Goldenrod City, Entei showed up and I caught it with a Masterball.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite of anything, but I just LOVE that feeling, growing up, of knowing I was going to stay over at a friend's house for the weekend, and we were gonna play SOMEthing awesome and/or new. My first all-nighter was a sleepover party during which no one let anyone sleep-->
... But my first all-nighter by my own actions/choices was staying up until sunrise (accidentally) playing The Secret of Evermore, 'cause it was just so engaging and fun and mind-blowing!
Gaming with my dad. He bought me my first consoles and handhelds, and we'd play games together all the time. He even bought a second Gameboy and Pokemon game so we could compete against one another and trade between games so I could catch them all back then 💜
I have too many good favorite memories...like all the times I played EarthBound with @sahrokapti.bsky.social and we tallied Starman Supers until we got the sword of kings, or all the sleepovers with friends playing co-op TMNT or Rampage...
Sitting in my friend's garage with an old cathode ray TV sitting on an old metal TV or kitchen island. Two-player super Mario Brothers and switching off taking turns on Zelda trying to uncover the mystery. Good times
Oh, and with that same friend playing all those old Sierra "quest" line of games. Space quest with Roger Wilco was my favorite.
Playing Super Mario on the NES when I was a little tyke. I was amazed and was my entry into the world of Video Games.
Earliest favorite? Was beating my dad’s high score on Space Invaders. Overall favorite? Reporting back to my dad, on what happened in any given RPG. He’s who got me into them. :)

I absolutely miss the days my dad and I were competitive with video games from Zelda to Gran Turismo. Those were some of the happiest memories of my life, other than getting to do the same with my own kids.
As games got bigger and bigger the competition isn’t as fierce, but it’s still there a bit. And that’s awesome! I do the same with my nieces. I may take Mario kart and Mario party a little to serious 😂
When I was between the ages of 8 and 13, when my out of state cousins of similar age visited we would all go to blockbuster to pick out a game each, and when we got home we would take turns playing then until we basically passed out from too much gaming.
Playing ALTTP for the first time. I rented it from a grocery store that doesn't exist anymore. I let the title screen play for several minutes. Every time it cycled, I looked to find something new. That started me on my path of Zelda games.
I was 11 or 12 at the time. I played it during the initial launch of it in the US. I did more exploring than actually playing it.
One of mine is playing Castle Master for the first time. I'd never seen a game with 3D graphics before, and seeing a dithered polygonal castle before me on the screen and being able to walk over to it through 3-dimensional space was mindblowing. That wonder has always stuck with me <3
I was deathly ill around Christmas when I was 9 or so. My mom let me open a Christmas present early and I picked one from my grandma. It was Metroid Fusion, still one of my favorite games to this day. Thanks abuelita, RIP.
Wow you make me think lol I'll tell this one. I just got PS3 brand new very shiny. Anyway my friend told me to go rent Oblivion. I did I never played anything like this. I didn't know what to do when they set you in the open world. I called friend up he said anything you want. I don't know!!!
I remember I saw a ship and I had my character go on it and then went to sleep on it. When my character woke up the ship was stolen. And there was a whole mission on that and I enjoyed that so much. But after that I still didn't know what to do after that. So my friend told me to go to a statue.
Of course the statue taught and he wanted stuff like cheese and a few other items. My friend told go get those items and bring it back to the Statue when you got them. And I did that so I brought it back. Then also in flaming dog come falling out of the sky. I told my friend he was laughing.
This is crazy I was saying. Turned off game and never played it again on the PS3 anyway. I did later on and started discovering the lore of the game. Who the statue was. But I'll never forget how crazy Elder scrolls four Oblivion is lol.
Playing Banjo-Kazooie on a giant screen at Best Buy back in the day. It was so cool looking at the giant screen while a bunch of other kids and teens cheered around me
I found some of my favorite games on demo discs. There was one I got in 98 and it Had so many good games on it. Tomb Raider 2, Jersey Devil, Hot Shots Golf, Blasto (RIP Phil Hartman), and Tomba! I played that Demo disc all summer, and got Tomba! When it came out.
I've said it before (I'll say it again), but probably my strongest one is just remembering my grandma sitting in this specific armchair watching me play Harvest Moon 64. She was tech illiterate, and didn't understand games, but she liked watching me pet the cows because "it was nice". She's - - -
- - - not here anymore, but I'll always have that memory of her, and I'm happy about that. We both liked Harvest Moon and that made it more fun to play. 😊
Hanging out in my friend's basement with his siblings and playing all the GameCube classics nonstop each weekend. The original Animal Crossing was our whole lives and no other Animal Crossing game was able to live up to that same experience.
Got a few. 1. Halo LAN parties. Usually managed to get 8-12 players for those. 2. Pulled a few Smash Bros. all nighters back in the day.

The first time I beat Super Mario World, which was the first game I beat. That feeling never left me! More recently, playing a janky version of Wheel of Fortune with some friends is always hilarious.
First best memory I had was playing Centipede with my mom. She kicked my ass multiple times lol. 2nd best memory was me finally being able to beat Pokemon Blue despite the slight language barrier (the game was in Spanish). 3rd best memory: almost beating Super Mario World after weeks of playing-
-and finding the Star Road and faffin about, looking for all the secrets (didn't have my own computer at the time so I was an avid secret hunter) 4th best memory: watching my mom beat the final boss of Yoshi's Island.
5th best memory, and the one most personal to me: My first ever video game crush. Link's Awakening. I would just talk to Marin and listen to her sing for HOURS (way before I knew you could actually date her....and before I knew how to beat the 2nd dungeon....I was a dumb kid back then lol)

Kingdom Hearts was a great ride as a kid. It felt like the game was so massive, I felt like there was so much mystery. It was also the first time I realized video game cut scenes could be as good as a film or TV Show. It really raised the bar for me.
I remember beating Super Mario Bros. 2 and I was a hero to the neighborhood kids that were watching. To this day some of them say “I remember when you beat SMB2. That was awesome!”

Playing ActRaiser for the first time as a kid and being absolutely blown away by the creativity of a city builder/action hybrid is up there. Or crossing the Atlantic in Open Waters New Horizon for the first time (while my cat perched on my shoulder like a parrot). Great times!
It's weird. I remember a lot of games I played and their stories but I don't have a lot of memories about gaming as a kid. Like I don't remember how I felt, what I was doing, where I was. Or the circumstances around getting specific things. Sometimes I get fragments of memory but not today I guess..
My house used to be the house that everyone would hang out at after school, or I used to have small parties cause I had the space and a cool setup for a high schooler, well everyone always came over and a group of us would have hockey tournaments with NHL 94 on the Sega Genesis.
Heading to the usual family house at Christmas when we were kids, every year, then running off upstairs and just playing Streets of Rage. It became a ritual until we hit our teens, and then we all sadly started doing our own thing. Family gatherings were special back in the 90s.
Really my entire first playthrough of Super Mario Galaxy, it felt unreal to kid me who up to that point had only played browser based games and flash games
A favourite memory is being at School with a friend and it was ‘toy day’. she brought her Game boy Advance Sp and I brought mine into school, We both had our games with us and we both sat together playing on our Game boys sharing games. She played Shrek while I played Bratz 🤣
Didn't really start until I was in my late teens/20s. Finishing Gauntlet was a huge deal for me as a late starter.

the local movie store had it in, but i dont remember if i was renting a snes game for the weekend or movie, but the owner calls us to the back, hes got an n64 on the tv, playing mario 64, bombom battle, i got handed the controller and told to try it out, thats the very same 64 i have now
Playing Super Hang-On, on the Mega Drive and then on a similar theme, into the Road Rash series. Seriously good times! I would privately fund a new Road Rash game 😅
I've mentioned it before on another skeet of yours but the moment in Final Fantasy II (IV) when I thought it was over and the whole second half opened up. Been chasing that high ever since.
The day I got an NES when I was 7 and played Super Mario Bros for five straight hours.
Not childhood exactly, but in university I used to go to the arcade with my bestie and play Area 51 over and over again until we eventually beat it. Nothing like bonding over shooting things lol
Another memory I have was playing my first online game with a friend. I was on my Amiga 500 and he was using I believe an IBM 486, either way the fact that we could play Populous against each other from our own homes was absolutely mind blowing to me at the time and so much fun.
After being unsuccessful on my own, I called the Sega Tip line (remember those?) for help finding the hidden entrance to Lassic's castle in the original Phantasy Star. With their help I beat the game and felt a huge sense of accomplishment after so much grinding.
Playing games on our first PC with my Dad. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting next to him while we played Space Quest, Kings Quest, or SimCity.
I appreciate those memories even more since Dad passed away.
Nights of golden eye 64
I actually have 2. When I discovered the Rainbow Road shortcut in Mario Kart 64. A 6 minute race in 3 minutes. I crushed my brother. He never figured it out. The other is when I finally killed Necrosaro in Dragon Warrior 4. I was around 8 at the time and the internet was not a home thing yet 1/3
So I had to figure out the entire 5 chapter journey on my own. Fighting a frustratingly stupid AI, the extreme open world with no real direction even after talking to everyone. Painstakingly mapping everything. Finally, it was all on the line. My heros vs Necrosaro, Master of Evolution. 2/3
Stunned as I watched his sprite lose arms, legs, and finally his head, I felt the battle was going in my favor. That is until he turned green and grew another head. He showed me how unprepared I was. After another couple levels, I returned to settle the score and won the fight. That is my moment
I remember liking a boy (which is hilarious bc I’m hella gay) when I was 11, and he kept tying his shoelaces whenever he saw me and that’s how I found out he liked me back. He turned out to be super into games and I impressed him with my new GameCube 😂 He introduced me to Fire Emblem too!

Renting Metal Gear Solid and Tenchu for the PSOne in 1998 and taking them to an overnight at my great grandmother’s. No case on MGS, so I could only get as far as the Meryl codec call.
Playing LittleBigPlanet. I would spend over 1000 hours from 2009-2015 making different costumes that were either my own design or from somewhere else. If I saw someone outside wearing a cool leather jacket or a pretty dress— BOOM recreate that in LittleBigPlanet. See a movie? REMAKE THE COSTUMES😍

My older cousin is a gamer. He is 6 years older. I was 8 and I asked him what game I should get. He told me “anything but Zelda. That game will be hard for you”. So I had to get it. Once I beat it I told him. And he said “if you beat the game where is level 9”. I told him and gained his respect.
Not exactly a single memory but visiting this legendary place in Dundee and picking up sone ZX Spectrum cassettes, staring at then art on the covers on the bus home and then the agonising load time before getting set about the new purchases!
One of my favorite childhood gaming memories was when me and my youngest sibling would play Mario Kart on the SNES,there was one trick where my sister would stay still while i built enough speed to release the red shell letting it circle around her until she moved for it to chase her and vice versa

Staying at my great aunt’s house, I brought Harvest Moon 64 and my N64 with me so I can have something to do since I was there for the weekend. The entire time I played my great aunt would give suggestions for animal names, crops to plant, how many to plant and enjoyed seeing them all. It was magic
My dad took me to the Super Smash Bros Brawl tournament at our local Gamecrazy even though we didn’t have a Wii, because they had a Melee tournament I wanted to play in. I went undefeated until the last match, where I got my ass kicked. 😂 He said he loved watching me play. ☺️
My cousin taught me how to play Pokemon games when I was a kid which made me a fan so I taught my little cousin how to play and he passed it on to his little brother who currently knows more than I do.
River City Ransom with my old friend. No matter what games we had on hand, it almost always came down to playing that, and usually finishing it in one go.
A memory that sticks with me is when my parents got me my Sega Genesis for Xmas. The system isn’t the memory it’s my dad actually sat down and played a game of Joe Montana with me. We don’t have a good relationship never had and he hates games. But he actually played and had fun.
My dad doesn't play video games and never really has. Still when I was very young, he would play some with me. I remember playing the DOS version of Rockford together while sitting on his lap. One of my earliest gaming memories.

One of my favorite memories is when me & my brother had a demo of Metal Gear Solid. We would play through the demo repeatedly and we thought the choking sounds were so funny 💀 Wouldn't get to actually play the game until years later.

Opening my first gaming console when I was like 11, a PS2 slim which included SingStar because my parents wanted to encourage my creativity as well as gaming.
My favorite memory was when I was finally able to beat the wall of flesh on the Xbox 360 version of terraria, back in 2014 or so. Me and my brother spent probably 5-6 hours making sure we were fully ready to fight it. Those were the days.
Going to Best Buy to get my PS1 in 1999 and going to Toys R' Us to get my N64 will always take me back. The Best Buy memory in particular always hits cause there use to be an aura about Best Buy, walking through the gaming section etc. Just walking through those stores back then hit so different
Some of my favorite childhood memories are going to my grandparents house and playing the N64 they had there with my grandfather. We spent countless hours in DK64 specifically. Exploring that game with him was my favorite thing to do as a kid.
Also as a kid and with no internet, I didnt know that the last 3 levels of the game existed until I replayed it as a teenager and 101% it for the first time. Even then I never got tired of it.
One of the few. Good childhood memories I have was when I was at my g-ma's place and saw my uncle playing his SNES, my first time seeing it. I sat down and watched him play what would become my all time favorite game.
The first time I reached Casino Night Zone in Sonic 2 with my cousins. We'd played it in the MP, but were excited to see it full screen. I got into the slots and my cousin asked, "I wonder what happens if you get Jackpot/Jackpot/Jackpot?" I then got that and we screamed as 150 rings flooded in.
Uhmm I was playing a game on the ds with my older cousin, she was better at it and I thought it was scary, I could watch her play it for hours Obviously this was while we were staying at my grandma and we had sneaked the ds with us to bed 😅
