I love Bluesky, I can make a post about how there are religious people looking to join progressive/liberal/left circles but asked that people not to deride religion and now my mentions are full of people...deriding religion.

All religions are figments of mass delusion and should be derided until they no longer exist to cause damage to humanity with the ignorance and hate they spread.
Amongst us are some narrow minds that hate to cultivate or persuade but love to condemn even if it hurts their own cause.
You can also post that observation and find people happy to prove your point in the comments yet again. I think (hope?) it represents a minority of entirely too online, very bitter and angry people.
Sorry man, your comments are appreciated and thought provoking. Hang in there. Speaking as a Catholic, we have more than enough history (bad and good) for folks to learn from. Anyway, take care & keep the faith…whichever that may be if it helps the less fortunate :-)
I'm not sure (1) why you expected anything different, and (2) why you think broad statements about Bluesky can be substantiated by, what, a couple dozen commenters.
Let me guess? Abrahamic religion? Has Klombadrov made an appearance?
The right looks for converts, the left looks for traitors.
Well in all honesty, the loudest voices against abortion, equality, the lgbtq2+ community are religious people. I grew up around so-called christians and I can attest they are some of the most hateful, two-faced, backstabbing people I have ever known. It’s not all, but there sure as hell is a lot.
bizarre. I didn't bother to reply because it's always seemed obvious that religious people have led some of the most significant political movements. Time to re-read Stepan's Twin Tolerations, in which he reminds us that modern Europe is not 'secular' but that church and state tolerate each other?
Maybe try forgiving them?
Maybe organized religions need to be derided until they stop being a poison on society?
Yeah they can be very obnoxious about it too
Don’t worry, they’ll vilify anyone. There’s no purity test too extreme.
