once the award actually became what it was *touted as* (award for popular SFF with more mass fan appeal and less "high-brow" readership) and not what it was intended to be by people who proposed it (an award for right-wing SF) it turned out that the right-wing stuff isn't actually that popular

Turns out they couldn’t sustain the outrage. I read most of that years Hugo packet and oof was some of the puppy stuff among the worst writing I’ve ever read.
