EU chose (rightly so) to ignore his policies and avoid tariff wars. Unpopular decision because of reactionism even among otherwise reasonable people, but it is meaningful approach since our politics drive slowly, not as American ones.

As for the reasons - there are whole generations and specific groups that are obsessed with "the woke"f. It is not reasonable, the same enforced Overton window movement happened with women/black rights in USA, but there was no easy access to everyone back then for the propaganda, so the world moved.

*and no, they didn't become fascist overnight because of LGBT rights. They were fascist, but they became politically involved over the issue (and other similarly unreasonable issues, like migration, or simply FEELINGS about political and social issues.
