USA is not a liberal democracy. It's a a flawed voting two-party system swinging between slightly left and very conservative and reactionary right. They defend their all-in approach just as you defend totalitarian rule.

I've touched the topic of fascism when I suggested introducing you to a socialism era boomer and his worldviews. As mentioned, he is very good representation of his generation, you would have been a hard time finding exceptions.
