This is the same pattern I’ve seen with 2 new families this year. One a Mother with 2 and another with 5 swimming, but then the absent Father back with them resting on the bank later. No idea but wonder if it’s part of their schooling towards independence?

Same. My two families are on my canal commute so not seen them for a week, but they always regroup in the same spot each evening close to their annual nesting place.
