And perhaps there is an irony that with the dissolution of branding, the chop chop has less stigma, too. There must be an econometric model that reveals a price that is too much to dissuade new (younger) smokers to be tempted and yet, encourage smokers to cut back or quit.

Personally I think tobacco use has been driven down to acceptable levels and there is enough knowledge out there that people know what they’re getting into. I would keep up current public health and health promotion measures but I really don’t think there’s much more extra to do.

gov data reveals excise was 95c a stick in Aug2020, and it is now 1.40 per stick.
