I disassembled a digital camera took out the IR filter, put it back together and switched it to ‘B&W’ mode and now have an IR camera. IR film can be tricky to handle.

Astrophotographers do that too. It extends the sensitivity into the hydrogen alpha emissions. Even with the filter in place, most digital cameras will see IR. You can check remote control devices by looking to see if the LED is lighting up when you press a button.
