I just watched a very smart guy in a podcast about economics and tech say that socialists don't like tech. Obviously, a broad assumption. I believe that technology can work best when owned by the public or groups of co-owners & used to benefit all stakeholders rather than a few shareholders.

I do not. The "public" is a fucked up political machine than rarely decides anything rationally. The few innovate and push progress forward not "the public".

Atlas Shrugged is such a great title. It perfectly summed up my feelings about Ayn Rand’s ideas.

Something tells me he's just bitter about everyone hating tech ceos - not just the socialists. And wants to spin it into "they hate tech".

Socialists absolutely adored the internet before the companies got hold of it. It was free distribution of information. Democratizing. Able to lift grassroots organizing. A place where regular people finally had the ability to broadcast and communicate directly to and with each other.

Yes, I recall. Douglas Rushkoff wrote and spoke very powerfully about it for decades. I believe we can create a new Internet, that is decorporatized and a new economy in that same fashion.

Allende brought experts on cybernetics from all.over the world to Chile because he thought technology was key for central planning.

Also, the ones distrusting tech the most are devs. Devs love using VPNs, understand what cookies does, have adblockers, search engine blockers etc

I get the point. Thanks. :) I've found many on the right tend to like Star Trek because it has (mostly) a strong male leader heading a militaristic (how they see it) star fleet doing battle with aliens and winning.

If machines take our jobs, they owe us royalties. A guaranteed yearly income from the economy that replaces us isn’t charity — it’s rent. Without it, the system starves itself. Even the best engine stalls when no one can buy the fuel.
