I was diagnosed ADHD as a kid, but had to get rediagnosed as an adult for reasons im still not 100% sure about...as part of my screening as a kid they noted a tentative diagnosis for Autism which they said I should look into, which they reiterated to me when I was rescreened as an adult...
...My attitude was a pretty simple one really, Its very likely I am autistic, but theres no unique support path for Autism or medications to 'control' it better...and most of the support elements they'd offer for an Autism diag are the exact same that ADHD people are offered anyway...
It would take (at least) 3 years to get an official diagnosis, for very little return or peace of mind, and with my partner being AuDHD (formally diagnosed) Its been easier to just take the tentative as a diagnosis, live as if I am AuDHD and follow the same paths my partner is...
Given the increasing hostility towards Neurodiversity and RFK's 'War on Autism' bollocks, im probably safer not having it on my medical record at this point, even if I self manage accomodations and wait for it to be something worth pursuing. its a wild ride though...
Yep I’m in the same boat as you on everything there! I’ll try and sort my ADHD, but I see no point to the additional diagnosis because there’s no support for it so.
