People voted for a rapist because they think it's OK for a man to rape a woman.

Some of them undoubtedly did. We live in a violent patriarchy that Dems are no more serious about actually dismantling than Republicans. Mass mobilisation in favour of rape is a great narrative for avoiding talking about ordinary hardships & capitalism, the role of which the data evidences.

It's part of the bigger picture though. People associate social progression with economic pain because the religious right have been pushing this lie for a while now: Women exist to have babies & men exist to sow their seed is part of that; white people are superior; LGBT people are sick perverts.

Oh, yeah. I agree this shit is totally a feature of late capitalism’s descent into fascism - and religion plays a particular role in that in the US. But no compelling alternative narrative is offered. Religion & its promises of dignity now & reward later has long been a servant of the rich.

There's definitely this ugly alliance between non-religious billionaires and Evangelists who want to turn America into a Christian Iran for their own reasons. Dems do need to take some of the blame for being so complacent and assuming they will always be protected.

Well, the extortionately expensively college-educated Dems looking down on “deplorable” Republicans for not being socially progressive were also happy to engage in mass incarceration of migrants, not codifying Roe vs Wade, criminalising protest and now back-pedalling on trans rights.

From what I hear the leaders of the Dems still think social media isn't that important. They just seem to be old white people stuck in the 1990s. They don't listen anyone despite many younger Dems warning them.
