Does the die was cast mean that: -The mold has been filled and the item is already made or -The dice has been rolled and set on its number or -A third die I've never heard of ?

I think the sort of 1st, the die/mould has now been made/cast so can't be changed, though not that the object has been made, more that if it is made, the result is fixed?
I take it to mean things have been set in motion or started that can’t be changed or undone.
oh yeah I get the usage, I just don't know if it comes from molds or games!
I think it comes from the actual throwing of the dice - you can’t tell what the result will be when the dice stop, but it’s going to happen.
It means “the dice has been thrown but we don’t know the outcome yet”. A choice has been made or an action has been started for better or for worse.
The die will appear in Avengers Doomsday.
I take it now to mean that the mold is made and no more changes will be allowed. All possibilities are gone. But when I was a kid, I always thought it was number 2, and that everyone just played with dice; like life was all about chance
It's the second one. Cast in this case is more like casting a fishing line. So it's more "I've thrown the die, but I don't know where it's landed yet."
I'm faaaaaaaairly sure it's the first one, but I always interpreted it as the die itself, the mold, has already been cast and set and so cannot be changed. But I stopped doing tech class in second year high school so my knowledge on manufacturing methods and associated metaphors is limited 👀
I always thought it was the first one, until I was looking up the Latin word for dice one day (there was a reason) and it corresponded with the second one.
