Canada has a free trade deal with the US, signed by a certain Donald Trump. How is that working out? Any lessons for the UK there?

jesus christ
Being in opposition is a lot easier than being in government but Ed Davey makes a very important point. The UK should stand shoulder to shoulder against tyranny with our fellow Commonwealth country.
It’s undoubtedly a diplomatic tightrope, but v soon Starmer must choose a side, or risk UK isolation. Ultimately he must go with EU in which case there will be no US trade deal & reciprocal tariffs can be raised against Trump.
How long before US health care companies gobble up the NHS??
Keir Chamberlain Starmer
Keir Starmer is following his own agenda. I don't know what it is but it involves Freeports, Blackrock, attacking the old and poor, keeping the draconian anti-protest laws, not releasing the full Russia Report etc. He needs to be straight with people. We do NOT want a deal with that crook Trump.
Keir Starmer keeping the UK firmly on the wrong side of history.
Can’t wait for the chlorinated chicken and hormo injected beef
What a weak response from Starmer.
Rock and a hard place
Hmmm Has he seen how iron cast the deals with Mexico & Canada were? If it includes the use of a barrel, forget it.
UK as usual waiting to find out how high the USA wants it to jump.
Starmer won't raise a finger to help Canada, will he? If he can starve his own citizens he can abandon Canada!
Exactly. He will sell Canada,out.
It will be politically damaging if the Government doesn't give robust support to Canada. There is likely a lot going on behind the scenes. But it would have been good if the PM had chosen to be more supportive during PMQs, even if the words were pitched carefully.
It would be an international disaster for our nation's reputation because of the Commonwealth links.
Yes, there is the Head of State / Commonwealth position. Additionally, if it ever got to the stage where there was a military incursion, then Canada can invoke NATO's article 5, to get support from allies there. So the UK would almost certainly be drawn in. What a depressing state of affairs.
It is, indeed. We should have, as a nation, made it clear from the start where we stand.
Canadians aren't holding their breath in this new "What paper?" world order. Europe has enough on its plate.
UK Gov rolls over for Trump to tickle it belly
