Like. I know I'm dwelling, but. Elon is bringing back the R-word over there and we come here to get away from that shit. But we're also liking "disabled people should just stop whining and risk death" discourse over here? What are we DOING

Seems to me humans are humaning. Same as it ever was. It makes it so hard to remain hopeful about our collective future.
I know it's not a particularly productive observation, but a lot of libs lost the plot a long time ago. I block more blue no matter who types than conservative trolls, here. The tendency to ignore the needs of vulnerable populations isn't, unfortunately, exclusive to any political alignment.
Reminds me of the Quaker Dem, during occupy, who couldn't understand why we (younger folks like me, then) didn't want to spend precious fundraised dollars on Coca Cola products (for a food-filled event). Cognitive dissonance is for *every*one...
You right
I've wondered if the resurgence of the r-word among otherwise progressive streamers/commentators is to try telegraphing they're too edgy to be considered woke snowflakes. Basically, toss members of our coalition under the bus in the name of outreach to folks that respond to that.
I've found that quite a lot of "leftist" spaces aren't actually progressive. Mostly because they consider my "die on this hill" issue of abortion to be pesky and not worth their time. (Inevitably, the "leftist" community they are creating is predominately white men.)
Oh yeah *pats side of bus* you can throw so many comrades under this bad boy.
I was told yesterday that YIMBYism is now left, so really wondering what progressive even means anymore despite being one of the literal policy people helping define it. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I spent a lot of time arguing with an account called "The Leftist Infighter" (which in fairness should have clued me in) who LEGIT wanted to die on the hill that "The left needs to stop policing language because using the r-slur lets us reach people we otherwise wouldn't," and he can rot in hell
Yeah, the funny thing about that is the good faith expectations for reciprocity never pan out. "If I give up something as an offering, they will, too"? Nope, no, one way ticket to a nightmare.
I was driving all day...what did we do now?
"disabled people needing doordash is millennial decadence" discourse
Ohhh. Glad I missed that.
Didn’t that discourse already run its course on Twitter months ago?
I was in grade school in the 1960s, when almost all the kids used the "R" word a lot. I never did, because I understood that the word made perfectly innocent people feel really sad.
I made the mistake of looking for it and yikes. I don’t even think I looked at the original, but the followup thread was pretty awful.
Oh is he mad now
Yeah, they were. I haven’t read them much but they seem like the kind of person who advocates for people to get three squares a day but it’s all gruel.
Good
Huh? Who?
Some asshole who keeps popping up in my "popular with friends" tab
I guess I just blocked them or perhaps they've got me blocked. Thing about the block here is that you can have. God knows what on the other side of it and just never know. I'm not sure this is an entire advantage, but I'm happier this way.
Haven’t seen that discourse yet. Block button armed.
Good riddance to him! It's like whack-a-mole with assholes here this week.
got it. don't know them, but fuck them.
It never ceases to amaze me how fast some folks who call themselves progressive quickly throw entire groups under the bus and back over it sneeringly when they become inconvenient. I cannot seem to get it through to people: if we don't *all* have freedom to live our lives, *nobody does.*
Once we concede that some people are better than others, we're just quibbling over who should get screwed.
The first time I tried to help someone into a supposedly accessible bathroom in a wheelchair was a stunning wakeup call for me. I had HOPED I had decent "the world isn't made for me" solidarity, as an ND person (esp w/with spatial issues), but damn, that shit was next level.
