They are from the Disc world novels by Terry Pratchett. Although they appear in earlier books, the first book to really feature them was the Wee Free Men. Picture Scottish warriors in kilts and painted blue, but only 6" high. They have a chant, "Nae Kings, nae Quins, nae lairds and nae masters".
