I’m curious if there are any anime that would be considered famous to Gen X/millennial anime fans, but obscure to Gen Z.

Chobits
My lukewarm take is that fruits basket and trigun would have been in this category if they hadn't gotten recent remakes
Do the zoomers know flcl?
Flcl recently also got a reboot...
We don't talk about that.
i think the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya and lucky star are probably up there
eh, gen z here, lucky star's pretty popular on tiktok with teens and tweens surprisingly.
i love that actually. do the kids know haruhi????? i never see her 💔
I see her plenty of times (naturally), but not as much as i do the characters from lucky star one of my mutuals made a haruhi edit to one of sasuke haraguchi's songs that spawned a whole edit trend last year that i occasionally see to this day
literally was gonna say Haruhi, the cult of Haruhi only lives on in 30 year old hearts
I want to say Lupin The Third. But it kinda flew under the radar for everyone here and also never really goes away either.
Paranoia Agent!
Tough to say, feels like just by the nature of being obscure it'd incentivize folks to pitch the series as slept on or underappreciated. Maybe something in that late 90's to 00's range. Mezzo Forte or the Read or Die OVA? I remember friends at the time really pushing me to watch them. I like R.O.D.
Is that a muthafuckin R.O.D reference!?
Toy Story
slayers 100%
Definitely Tenchi, Outlaw Star and Slayers.
Durarara aired only once on adult swim/toonami
Vampire Hunter D isn't an anime series, that I'm aware of, but the anime movie was considered a classic and the books were great
I’ve never seen a gen z talk about Haruhi and that shit used to be SO popular

The Christmas special hit so hard
regardless of the manga the anime is trash garbage imo, looks just awful, garish colors, cheap animation, BUT the songs are all weirdly great, I own the vocal album that came out on CD in America lol
