Taiwan cherry? You don't want it. Beautiful but incredibly invasive. Birds spread it far and wide.
Oh Taiwan Cherry? Not the variety I think I want… I’ll check the booklet I got from the local council. It already stopped me from planting a tree I really wanted 😭
It'll be in the booklet. If it were a good tree, I would not spend so much time yanking them. They're an ornamental cherry. Very pretty pink flowers but seed so much that they're a constant battle once introduced. You can get other less invasive ornamental cherries though.
I don't know what variety of ornamental cherries I have but have had no problem with seedlings which is a relief. Mostly I am pulling out privet, which neither me nor my neighbours have
Oh I was pulling those out too, but it was like 10:1 cherry:privet. Most modern ornamental cherries don't set seed. But some of the earlier ones did. They're very pretty, but relentless.
Glad I don't have that problem as well as privet. Mine is less than 10 years old so must be a non seed setting variety
Privet!?!?
This place was mostly privet and wild ginger when we moved in. Got rid of it all but it is a constant effort keeping it out
Oof. That's an effort to get on top of! But yes, vigilance is key, I think.
Ornamental?! Ugh I at the bare minimum want a tree to fruit so the birds can mock me when I wonder why there’s none on the tree…
Yeah then you definitely don't want what I've got. I've got an entire bush full of fast-growing useless cherries that the birds still love and continue to spread everywhere.
