2/4 and now, under trump’s “america first” posture, those same countries are being treated like adversaries. it’s like watching a teenager slam the door on the very people who raised him, forgetting that his strength came from their support.

3/4 tariffs, diplomatic snubs, and public rebukes aren’t just policy, they’re symbolic ruptures in relationships that took generations to build. it’s irony. but also tragedy.
4/4 because when a country turns its back on the very alliances that made it strong, it doesn’t just isolate itself, it invites the rest of the world to move on without it. and they are.
I can only reply that the Trump regime isn’t “America.” It’s an execration!
1/3 totally get that. trump isn’t america in its entirety, but his regime is the face of america’s foreign policy right now. for allies abroad, that distinction doesn’t always matter. what they see is unpredictability, insult, and retreat, and they’re acting accordingly.
2/3 as ray dalio said: empires rise through innovation & strong institutions, and fall due to debt, internal conflict, & loss of global trust. the u.s. now shows signs of this decline, rising debt, fractured politics, & diminished credibility. we’ll see if the cycle holds.
3/3 today’s shift isn’t just about trump, it’s about a deeper erosion of the post–wwii order, where the u.s. was the anchor. now, countries are hedging, regrouping, and building a multipolar world. history doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes, and this rhyme is loud, even if not recited by all americans.
Certainly the 80 year post WWII period is fast ending—if not already over. Europe will have to rise to that challenge! Else a revisionist Russian Empire will be at its throat very soon! As for my country (US) we need to “clean house” (excise) the Trump regime and its enablers, before we can go on.
i don’t fear the russians, only the turmoil of war. europe has always risen to challenges, and it will do so again i expect nothing less from the decent citizens of the usa the pain lies in the waiting: knowing that the longer one delays action, the longer it takes to correct and repair resist!
