That was exactly the problem. Zero acknowledgement when food prices went up by literally 30% on average in two years (mine went up 50%). It's an increase people *experience*. If food is 10% of one's expenses and goes up 50%, it's like a 5% after tax pay cut. Every week.

Food prices did not go up 50%, though. That's just not true.

they didn't say everyone's did. they said theirs did. they said everyone's went up 30%, which is supported in the chart you just linked. what are we doing here

Correct. I have the same price data for my specific area and it was 30%, but I had a preset grocery list and for the exact same items in the same quantities it went up 50%. Maybe I’m a bad shopper or have expensive tastes.

They addressed that by managing the economy so the real income of those at the bottom went up. Pretty good way to handle inflation.

I mean, I was very impressed at the “soft landing” and thought the economy couldn’t have been handled better under the circumstances. The constant “you’re wrong” messaging invalidated how people felt about sudden price rises. A raise feels earned, 30% more for food every week feels like a rip-off.

And for anybody paying attention, the sudden price increases between 2021 and 2023 were not a result of federal economic policy, they were corporations taking advantage and raising prices under the guise of pandemic supply chain issues, and none of those prices have come back down.

If you were impressed by the way they handled the economy you should be saying that and not complaining about the economy. Help pass the message of how things are better and say how it can be further improved. Being negative about something you know is improved doesn’t help

I mean, I never blamed the Biden admin for volatile retail pricing, I know better. And I talked plenty about how the admin had avoided what I and many others had thought was going to be another 2008 crisis. I think we're going to get that crisis now thanks to the 🤡's idiocy.

Messaging does need to be better but it is not helped by a large number of left activist/influencers freaking out about the economy in those years. The message from these people needed to be “bidens policies are helping and the need to be intensified and/or continued”

If you are going to criticize the Biden economic policy like this from the left then you are going to convince politicians to not spend money in a crisis and to not value low unemployment that drove up wages for the people at the bottom.

Instead we got “OMG things are so bad. Worse economy ever! Look at the price of my single delivered burrito in 2023 compared to what I bought it for in restaurant in 2015.“ which convinces people to vote for trump or to not vote at all. Also, no messaging of wage increases didn’t help.
