As a kid, my family used to spend Labor Day weekend camping with a few other families. The moms did basically everything, and the dads' "help" often wasn't. Like when my dad tried to reheat pizza by putting the box over the fire. Or spent a whole day rigging up a mini TV to watch a football game. 1/

My BFF asked me once to take her camping, because she said she'd never been able to enjoy it because of all the extra work and headaches. Her big request was that we not cook ANYTHING -- so I took her camping in Marin County and we ate out for every meal and had a great time!

Don’t mind camp cooking so much, but *despise* washing dishes in camp. My compromise is “freezer bag meals”. Prep everything at home, add boiling water to the bag, wait five minutes. Eat out of bag. Nothing to wash but the spoon. (Lick it clean, it’ll be fine.) Salmon artichoke pesto rice 👨‍🍳🤌

That was exactly how the ARVN made their field rations in the 60s.

A counter-top dehydrator can be had for < $50 on Amazon. Refurbished works just as well.

A couple of the dads complained so much about sleeping in tents that the moms eventually told them--if you're so miserable go home and come back and get us tomorrow. So, they did! My mom told me years later, she came away thinking--it'd be easier for moms to just communally raise their kids. 2/
