Agree with that & it does seem to be getting more tribal & less bipartisan. I've only really paid any attention to US politics since Trump made his announcement about running - having run across him in the 80s & worked out that he was not Presidential material because of who he chose to be.
Trump isn't in either party. He's an outsider. Trump latched onto the Republican party because they are gullible and easily manipulated... way more easily manipulated than the Democrats. The still are. They won't let Trump go or go against him because the Republicans are just THAT gullible.
They are also afraid of him. Trump is a revenge machine if you cross him. Trump was a pro-abortion Democrat when he lived in NYC. That wasn't really true either. He doesn't believe in anything but money and access.
I'll wager that Trump himself has no feelings about abortion - beyond "if I knock you up, you will abort it". Although I think that isn't a problem in his life these days.
