The national guard provides no protection against the Federal Government because the POTUS can federalize them at any time. This is why states need a State Guard instead.

Towns/states once had militias and the Fed Gov created the Militia Act (there's a few revisions) that formed the national guard to replace. Militias were partly responsible to keep the Fed Gov in check... but obviously transforming them into a force the POTUS can just take over made that pointless.

So blue states need state-run military to guard us against lunatic presidents. I hope Pritzker realizes this.

Yes, and they can legally do that. California and NY have State Guards. But, they're small, underequipped and under trained for tasks like these. That really needs to change. California has an economy twice that of Russia. There's no reason why they can't have a real military.
