I know it’s easy to say from here (and we might get tested this way soon), but I somehow expected a society as resourceful and rich to have some sense of attachment to democracy

When you get to the point where the choice of presidential candidates is between two of whom each is effectively committed to continuing sponsoring a genocide, the politics is so broken that adherence to any norms is not to be relied on.
