We're independent thinkers up here.
We're independent thinkers up here.
And all around decent people.
Right On!!! We're out on NorCal coast... Our tiny seaside village... Giving a nationwide shout out!!!
Why do you keep re-electing Susan Collins?
Maybe that's a question for Heather Cox Richardson in Maine, I'm writing from Northern California.
Thanks. I’m in Washington and just trying to figure out from 3000 miles away what those “independent-minded” Mainers are thinking!
Because the local news media runs constant misinformation about her record. All those times she calculates her votes to vote "in opposition" to her party are headlined as heroic stands in the Bangor Daily News and other outlets. Folks really believe that "moderate independent" crap.
Yet, the voters keep sending susan collins to the senate.
Portland, Maine is a great town. Fond memories there.
Except Susan Collins and her twisting pearls.
Our Lady of Perpetual Concern
Chuck Schumer in drag.
Fuck that used up hag.
I was hoping you had seen this!
Yet you keep re-electing Susan Collins. Why? She only complains and never shows real courage hen it comes down to it.
the Resisters were already out today in Southwest Harbor a day early and getting lots of support from passers by ✊
They're out there every Saturday, along with dozens of others towns around Maine that have held regular weekly protests and standouts since February.
Monty Python said it best..
🙏🏼
Haha that was what my mother always said about me but she didn't mean it as a compliment.
Sigh. But aren't you also cold and your knees hurt?
100%.
Already flannel season
Not Midcoast, it’s perfect
Close to frost here in Cumberland.
Not very? My Roma tomatoes are just ripening (on schedule) and don’t expect frost until October. Perhaps because we’re right on the water so it is warmer?
Mine are just now ripening, too. In fact only tomatoes that have ripened so far here are my Sungold Cherry. Yep, within 5-10 miles of the coast has warmer temps through the winter from ocean temps and breezes being warmer. Keeps the bugs down, too! We're a bit more inland and higher elev.
Yep, we sure are, & it's reinforced every day when I do my calendars & check for updates and new events. Look at this list of efforts for today and next Wed for #SaveMaineAbsenteeVoting. Many more happening next week and after, as well. Thanks for boosting my list last Sunday! #EveryEffortCounts
Reach the areas above Bangor. Maga is pretty strong there.
Maga is strong in all areas of the state. There are regular weekly protest events in Lincoln, Millinocket, Machias, Calais, Presque Isle, etc. and events have been held on national days of Action in all these places and Houlton, etc.
We grew up there.
It's wonderful country with wonderful people. I lived in Penobscot County for a long time, starting in the 70s, and worked all up and down through Piscataquis, Aroostook, & Washington counties. Very fond memories of all the folks there.
Most of those areas mentioned are Rednecks living deep in the woods, hoping for a Gift from Trump. Having Teeth is optional.
As every state in the Union has.
👊
I'm very familiar with these areas and people; very few supporters for Trump, only the ones who were promised change for supporting Trump, later to find out they were broken promises, but still chasing his dream.
We also sent more men to fight the Confederacy in the Civil War than most. We are patriots.
That's good, but I think most of the US is with your train of thought. Stay strong.
I couldn't agree more. The number of folks becoming engaged is impressive. Often led by seniors, many of whom, like me, started protesting against injustice decades ago. Hopefully it will all help drive positive change for the good of all Americans.
Admit it, you're really Canadians at heart.
We're the only state that shares a border with only a single state. Most of Maine is bordered by Canada, for sure, and we depend on border trade for fuel, food, lumber, etc.
What does Susan Collins do for you? Why do keep re-electing her and her concerns?
What does Donald do for you? Why do you keep re-electing him and his corrupt lawlessness?
I have never, ever once voted for him or any other Republican presidential candidate. My state (WA) has two Democrat US senators and our governor, legislature and all statewide office are held by Democrats. Without the snark, can you just tell me why Maine keeps re-electing Collins?
I have never, ever, once voted for Susan Collins. Replying reply after reply in this thread with "why do YOU" ... and that's what you will get back. Words matter.
Got it. Why does your state keep re-electing Collins? Just seeking an honest answer or guess. You’re 3000 miles closer to an educated guess than I am.
And you're in a country that has elected the same disastrous man again. Why does your country keep re-electing him? SO many of the answers are the same, is the point of asking you back the same thing.
And the rest of us are grateful for you and your voice. Thank you
Susan Collins says that too
💯💯💯
**Me
Great. I must say as a Canadian from Qc who used to visit almost every year (for 50+ years) it reconciles me with your state. (Profil pic taken in Ma!) Get back your country. Get back your state 💪🏼 Maggots are just loud but mainly few if we don't count online bots and ru hacks
One of the most dedicated MAGAs I know lives in Maine. And he’s a vet. And a former officer. A good one. Well, he was. So don’t get all carried away patting yourselves on the back up there.
The point of the post is that Mainers are engaged & it's making a difference in public opinion. Statistically 15% at either end of any issue never change their mind. It won't sway every maga, but has helped a ton of folks rethink things. It's happening everywhere across America. I'm showing Maine.
I’ve seen 3 houses in Bangor I walk by daily that have taken down their dump signs
It's happening everywhere, isn't it. I believe that's @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social's point in the post that started the thread. I love to see it and will do everything I can to spread the word about how folks can participate and engage in Maine.
Wake up! Mainers are also consistently engaged in re-electing Susan Collins
Wake up! Americans are also consistently engaged in re-electing Donald.
Honey, I was woke before you were even in diapers. I would really just like a truthful answer from your perspective about why Maine keeps re-electing Susan Collins. No judgment intended. Your posts indicate many Mainers are left leaning, but you keep electing Collins. Why???
Again w/the snark. I'm in my eighth decade, sugar, and have been an activist since the 60s. Collins got reelected because of big money, look up McConnell and how much PAC money he put behind her. Your posts slam Mainers but haven't answered me either. Why do you keep electing Donald? Same answers.
Elderly people living on the edge. Often alone and terrified to make a move that might put them at risk of higher taxes or less food or homelessness. Very weak presence of Dems in Congressional District 2. They talk like we are straight out of Deliverance then ask for money every day by mail.
Main has Canadian support. To the death.
Unfortunately, Canadians have stayed away this year in droves when they, in more normal times, are a mainstay of trade and tourism. We love Canadians, many here are cross-border families. Like so many others, however, folks blame the state for what the nation has done, electing him again.
Support from this side of our boarder. Until the mentally deranged are removed from power.
I've loved seeing the cross-border rallies of mutual support; that's what Maine/Canada is.
Mainers are solid.
Mutual, my friend, we think the same of our Canadian neighbors.
How interesting. I live in New Mexico (moved her after nearly 50 years in Mass). This state is larger than all of New England added together, but it's not on this list cuz ½ the population lives in the Albuquerque area. But this is a very, very rural state.
They generally judge it by percentage of a state's population that lives in rural areas, so a densely populated city in any state changes that percentage dramatically. I've lived in parts of west Texas that have a pop.density of less than 1 person per square mile!
Yes, I get that. It's curious to me that the calculation is percentage living rural versus per capita/square mile. There's only about the population of the Boston metro area in the entire state of NM. 2M-ish in a state larger than all of New England, but 1M-ish in ABQ.
I'm sure there are stats for that too, and for rural vs urban acreage, etc. Makes one wonder which stats are used when applying for funding, setting up districts for this or that, etc. If there's anything learned in a statistics class, it's that you can always find statistics to prove a point.
Tru'dat. And TBH, NM loses out on funding frequently, cuz the math ain't mathing here.
I'm a Mainer and I'm working Labor Day. There are no holidays in healthcare.
Same here, working full time, though not in health care. No holidays or vacations in years for me, in this economy. Health care is getting hit hard.
It's been quite a slog since 2020.
I can only imagine, Liesse. It's appreciated by far more than who say so.
I also work in a facility for the developmentally disabled with severe physical disabilities. I love my work. It's not easy or huge pay but I make their lives better that's what counts.
Idk. Before the election, I had a chance to drive through Maine and boy was I disappointed. I’ve never seen so many trump signs in my life. They especially loved giant trump country signs. It was creepy.
Exactly why so many Mainers are engaged, showing family and friends how many of us are NOT on board with him, his policies, or his unlawful acts. Many of those signs are now gone. A neighbor's, whose big sign was up throughout the Biden years, was taken down and thrown in the ditch. A lot of change.
Gosh, I sure hope because jt was so disheartening to see.
Forgive my typos! 🤦🏻♀️
