================== Why Pine Tree Activism? ================== Good Sunday morning!. It's bright, sunny, and warming up. Welcome new followers! I appreciate your interest and faith in the content here. I post this from time to time to explain the background to choosing the name Pine Tree Activism.

WHY PINE TREE ACTIVISM? In 1772, 90 miles from where I write this in Maine, the Pine Tree State, English colonists in Weare, NH resisted the rule of King George III. The colonists rebelled against England's long standing Broad Arrow Policy, which decreed “for better providing and furnishing of Masts for our Royal Navy wee do hereby reserve to us ... ALL trees of the diameter of 24 inches and upward...” Colonists were prohibited from felling and using any tree marked by broadaxe with an arrow for their own shipbuilding and construction. They were forced to sell these trees to the Crown only, at far below market price. The King wanted it all. When the policy was broadened to all trees over 12” in diameter, a leader of local sawmill owners milling marked trees was arrested. Colonists resisted, attacked British authorities and ran them out of town. The rebellion came to be known as the Pine Tree Riot. Word of the resistance spread, inspiring the Boston Tea Party and other acts of rebellion. These first acts of resistance led to the American Revolution and the creation of the United States of America. Pine Tree Activism was created in the spirit of American colonists resisting authoritarian rule. #EveryEffortCounts // Email Maine resistance events to: ptactivism@gmail.com PINE TREE ACTIVISM on Bluesky: @pinetreeactivism.org Born this day, Feb 16, 2025

Interesting Canadian oil is in the same position as the loggers and ship builders of the US in 1777 Except … we are selling our oil to the US at a huge discount and were pressured to only build pipelines to the States. Any building of refineries faced severe opposition from the U.S.

It's all madness and control. Big money talks and does what it wants, consumers be damned.

The trees were needed for masts on the British war and merchant ships.

Yes, all for the Royal Navy, as it says above. There was in the 1980s-90s, & may be still, an ancient, giant Eastern White Pine in the Rockland Bog of Knox County, Maine, bearing the King's mark, an upward arrow made of three strikes with a broad axe. Hence the name Broad Arrow. I'd love to see it.

I'm trying to suss why this post has garnered so many more reposts/likes in a day compared to when I've posted it before. I like to think it's because folks are paying more attention to the fact that we've been here before, & that #resistance is not only possible, but necessary. What do you think?
