In the foreground is a Black woman (Jean Carn) wearing an elaborate dress in white cotton with heavily embroidered sleeves and neckline, with large hammered metal medallion and bracelet. She is clasping her hands and looking to her left. Behind her is a Black man (Doug Carn) looking at the ground with his arms extended. I think he's at the beach; we can see the surf coming onto the sand and possibly a pier in the background. You can also see the shimmering of the water across her face and hands. Much of the composition is mottled, like a watercolor.
