This had me curious to see how many #AEW actually has. TBS Women’s World TNT Men’s World Unified Tag Trios I think that’s it. FTW was retired. LMK if anyone sees I forgot something. 🤼♂️

“Unified” is still two separate especially since the continental classic can separate them ROH titles are also frequently highlighted on the show, resulting in more wrestlers with belts
Are we sure that they can still break up the Unified belt ? I always find Tony's explanation about it quite confusing..
They can just don't expect it anytime soon. The Continental and International Championships lineage continues with the Unified Championship. That's why Okada is listed as International Champion too outside of the Continental and Unified.
I guess I'm still hoping that they change their mind and keep it unified... 😔 There's no need for 5 different singles titles really...
They're not separating the belts anytime soon. The upcoming Continental Classic is obviously for the Unified Championship in the Finals.
Is it tho ? How do we know it's not for the Continental title only ?
Just because the name is Continental in the Tournament doesn't mean the belts will be separated. They made the Unified Championship for a reason, to make it the 1B Championship behind the Men's World Championship. And they want to give back some priority back to the TNT Championship.
They're also keeping the other two physical belts around for a reason imo. I'm not saying that's what's gonna happen but until something is made official, it's pure speculation. If they really intend to have them separated, the C2 seems like the logical opportunity to do it.. but what do I know..
They're a bundle with the Unified Championship. Simple. Like I said that's why you see Okada on the Roster Page listed as the Unified Champion, Continental Champion and International Champion. The official title is the Unified Championship but the lineage of the other belts continues.
See, you say it's simple but I must be very dumb because what would be simple to me is just using the Unified title as one title, retire the other belts and leave it at that. Keeping the other two alive serves no purpose other than eventually broke them up and end up with 3 different titles imo..
Yeah, wondering how that will work at the next CC. I hope they keep them together.
Same.. I hope they keep it together (otherwise it's ANOTHER singles title) and stop having a title as the price for winning the C2.
It would defeat the purpose of the C2 if there was no title prize for it. The Continental and International should just be pernamently combined or just the International title gets retired.
A title shot and a trophy would be enough in my opinion as a prize for the C2. You don't need a belt that you can win all year long just by asking for a title shot, except when it's C2 season where you have to go through a whole tournament to win it... They need to reevaluate that imo.
Look at the AEW roster page if you want to have a laugh
Why ?
Unified Champion - Okada Continental Champion - Okada International Champion - Okada Guy almost takes up half the championship section
Oh I know... Trust me I know...
Yeah, but currently it can be won as one belt. I don’t count ROH belts being defended in AEW as AEW belts. Then you’d have to include NJPW belts too in that case.
Any belt that someone shows on screen visually saturates the show. Not in a 9-belts Mone way, but in an everyone has a belt sort of way. Sort of an unintended consequence of having so much talent work in AEW and ROH
Unified is a celebratory belt, but the Continental and International are supposed to still be separate and active.
Are both belts always on the line when Okada defends? If that’s the case then the first chance of it being split is at the next CC. If whoever is Unified champion at that time loses the CC, they will only lose the Continental belt and remain International champion.
They haven't been clear how it works, but implied it's split. Having said that, when Swerve challenged for the Unified they did so under Continental rules. Personally I'd like to see a Unified Intercontinental combined belt that can travel like the International and return for the C2.
Personally I think that's what they're aiming for here, but don't want to make the change too suddenly while both belts are so young and they already changed the name of one.
I bet you anything that once the Continental splits, the International AND the Unified belts stay in circulation... I don't think the Unified title is just a celebratory belt at all. I think it's yet another singles belt.. And it's pretty dumb imo..
To my mind, any belt needs its own stipulation to make it worthwhile. Midcard titles like the TV ones? Make it so the champ is defending no matter what the match is so long as it's televised, so if they take a pin in a tag match they also lose the title.
I agree, I like when belts have their own set of rules. My favorite TV title one is the WCW one where you need to defend it every week on TV and there's a 10 minute time limit.
As a TV title should be.
Yeah, the Unified champion has to abide by the rules of both divisions. The International division doesn’t have any special rules, so they only mention the Continental aspect. That means they’ll definitely have to defend it in the CC if they’re mentioning Continental rules.
The Unified title is defended under Continental rules because Okada, the Continental champion, won it... That's the reasoning Tony gave after All In..
But if the champion wins, it continues being unified until the next CC, where there’s a chance to split it again.
