A $60 million US Navy fighter jet was lost at sea after it fell overboard from an aircraft carrier.
A $60 million US Navy fighter jet was lost at sea after it fell overboard from an aircraft carrier.
but we "can't afford" to provide free lunches at schools
$60m gone in an instant, no big deal, just a school or two
That’s a lot of peoples’ rents that could have been paid.
Vaxxed?
... Into the waiting arms of a Russian sub no doubt.
Now DOGE is gonna have to starve more kids so we can afford a new plane
for $60 million, it should've came with a life jacket
😅
Or floaties. Fighter jet floaties
Good grief- if some rebels in Yemen can cause an aircraft carrier with a screening flotilla to take evasive manoeuvres what’s a near peer adversary going to do? Carriers obsolete in world of missiles and UAV?
All the best people.
(Australian accent): the jet fell off
Oops!
#drunkPete #duihire
🤣 that's funny
All the money that the government and the military wastes while the planet dies and people starve.
anyone uh, anyone wanna go scuba diving
This is a problem and Hegseth doesn’t build more confidence. Enough already. #wtf
So Who did Trump blame for that helicopter and plane accident in Washington ?
Oops!
Drunk bombing Yemen and dropping a $60 million dollar F-18 into the water seems like the best use of of money. Has Elon musk provided a response.
Thanks Trump!
well at least we can't hurt anyone with it anymore
Wouldn't have happened if we still had wokeness and DEI.💅
Oh well, not like we could have used the money for anything else
lolsob
Have fun dragging that up.
We obviously need DEI back.
If there was one person who failed to tie it down properly then they could be paid salary for the rest of their career and never cost a tenth as much as they did that day.
I know it was technically an American plane but it wasn't born there, it had flown in so basically it was a migrant and I say deporting it off the carrier was the right thing to do.
What, like in a big gust of wind?
Where is drunk Pete?
In his make-up studio
Bring back the deep state and DEI hires ffs
DeckOops
Welcome to Kegseth's merit based, no DEI, competency only military.
WHAT? Are all the stupid people in charge of everything now!
Yes
We blaming this on DEI too?
Was it a white, middle-aged man in command of the ship it accidentally fell off of? Asking for DEI.
👏👏👏👏
Right-wingers are flat out terrible at virtually everything they do, they are below average crabs in a bucket
So that's where The Goodies furball went after initial destruction 🤭🤣🤣
Ah, memory lane…
Can't beat a classic 😁
The Captain appears to be a 52 year old middle-aged white man. Laughs in DEI.
I’d be interested to see if this has happened before from the hangar deck. We’ve certainly lost aircraft over the side from the flight deck while traversing
Seems the captain should have known the aircraft wasn’t secured when taking evasive measures. Or the ship was in a very dangerous position that meant it was the whole aircraft carrier or one jet. The Houthis did say they were launching missiles at the ship. Why are we there?
Highlighting incompetent below-average white dudes What did you expect?
Caused by Doge??
Since Navy ships are called “she” I’m irrationally going to claim it’s DEI.
We have submarines, the most beautiful submarines in the world. They have wings and are beautiful. The can fly and swim, not at the same time but they are beautiful.
Love the incompetence of the Us military these days, china would destroy the US in any real conflict and I think that’s just becoming more and more obvious at this point
Whoops!
I wonder if any of our national rivals will decide it's worth going fishing for an F/A-18?
Was it a DEI jet fighter?
DUI?
Lethal
This is a metaphor for the Trump administration
Ask yourself, are these the military guys you'd want to go to war with? lol
Gold.
Well THAT'S embarrassing!
Remind me again how successful the Yemen strike exposed on the Signal chat was??
Trump warned us that magnets don't work when they get wet. He's always right 🤷
If you can work electrocution by batteries and sharks into this, that'd be grand.
Oooo must be a trump appointee in charge
Was Pete Hegseth visiting at the time?
Shit happens
lol, lmao even
How many soc sec offices could be saved with $60 mil?
Somebody was Signal with Pete texting instead of paying attention.
Would have been nice to include why it fell...trying to avoid Houthi fire.
Ok. This falls on Pete, right?
Would have been nice if it actually did...😏
dropping him in the middle of the Red Sea would be a start, I suppose.
Wow! That’s like ten taxpayer funded trips for the felon/rapist to one of his properties, where trump inc charges hyper-inflated rates for his staff and security to be at his property.
Putin!
Such a perfect metaphor
If they aren't falling from the sky, they're falling from carriers! DODGE should've just cut the administration & left the bureaucrats!
Bring back woke. Woke never lost any jets by letting them 'fall overboard.' Are we sure they didn't sell it to the highest bidder? Because that sounds more like this bunch of grifting traitors.
👍
How many planes, helicopters, rockets and fighter jets have crashed since Trump took office? #thnX tRUMP
Lmao
If my tax dollars go towards getting a new one instead of getting people good, housing, and education, I will be pissed.
Wild guess Jeremy Renner was driving the tractor, didn't set the brake before getting off to do one little thing...
Ooops !
Godspeed to the person who's gonna get stuck doing the flipl
Never happened under Biden and Harris.
Ah yes the classic. “Wha’, dat? Uh, yeah, it a … kinda fell off da’ truck”
That’s an F-35 the cat knocked off the flight deck, not an F-18. Why was someone taking pictures at the time? Did they know the cat was going to do that?
Does this go on the Ansar Allah scoreboard too, or are we not counting own-goals?
Hmm, correct me if I'm wrong. But I don't recall planes falling overboard during either Biden's or Obama's terms.
We did, an F-18 and an F-35. The real thing that's not getting enough attention here is we've lost 7 MQ-9s that cost $30M a pop since March over Yemen. We did not do that under Biden. www.france24.com/en/live-news... news.usni.org/2022/07/11/n... news.usni.org/2022/03/03/n...
Has anyone done a joke about putting it a bag of rice in here
No rice for you!
maga
Just wow....how does that even happen?
Gravity sucks. Gravity on the ocean really sucks. An old sailors' adage is, "if it ever went on a boat, it's down there somewhere."
According to the report, the carrier was doing a hard turn to avoid Houthi fire, so you know they will count that as having downed a US fighter jet - in effect.
This didn’t happen when the black General was in charge of DoD.
Was Whiskey Pete driving?
Reminds me of this youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM
"The Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard" An aircraft carrier made a hard turn? Ok. Not sure which is more embarrassing, a jet falling off because of Houthi fire or lying about it.
It's actually a thing.
Ta. Maybe it's not a lie. Maybe a jet did fall off an aircraft carrier because it turned. And maybe it did turn because of some rabble in the desert fired at it. Pretty embarrassing, either way, isn't it.
Also the USN lost an F-18 off the Mediterranean a few years ago in rough seas. And last year we shot down our own F-18 in the Red Sea due to friendly fire.
🤦🏻♀️
youtu.be/VeHZdfgPbJw youtu.be/IJ8AA-GDxd8 The big takeaway from this isn't Navy incompetence. It's the Houthis are able to over saturate the US Navy with threats that they are making basic mistakes like shooting down our own aircraft.
You clearly know more about this than I do but I think a jet falling off an aircraft carrier is highly suggestive of incompetence.
The last time any US servicemember has been killed by air attack was during the Korean War. The US had a cheat code for war for 70 yrs. Now with the rise cheap drones, they've bypassed air dominance. Last January, 3 army soldiers were killed by air attack in Jordan.
That’s the counter to missile defense, overwhelm defenses with volume. The Houthi’s are not dumb.
Maybe not but surely you would expect that spending $1tn per year on the military would give you quite the advantage here.
bsky.app/profile/mkre...
Not when you're burning billions upon billions on "jets that can't fly through clouds" and "naval vessels that rust in salt water". Better spending > more spending. Always.
Have you ever been on a aircraft carrier? Fighter jets get parked with their tail over the deck on the bow many times. For me, I need to know the other factors, Were they doing a respot? Were all the tie down chains in place? Were they moving an aircraft to the elevator? Lots of questions.
But this is obviously an embarrassing mistake, isn't it.
Not necessarily. It is the cost of doing business sometimes. It's not the first time we dropped b an airplane. In the Gulf War, on my ship, we had to push a plane over the side to clear the landing area when the brakes failed on an A-6. Both crew got out but the aircraft couldn't be saved.
Lots of DOGE energy coming from him.
Not really. Missile defense is dependent on many things, geometry of trajectory, capabilities of the interceptor, volume of fire, and other things. The question I have, as a former naval aviator, is what are the flight deck crews doing to be prepared for this? I also worked missile defense later.
If you are correct in saying that spending $1tn per year on the military does not give you an advantage over a small, regional force in Yemen then that just leads to more questions. Eg. Why spend $1tn per year and what happens when your opponent is significantly more formidable.
In summary, you can't draw overall conclusions from one event. The enemy always gets a vote. The question is, what fights are worth it and which are not. We had overwhelming superiority in both Iraq and Vietnam and look how they turned out./ end
The Gaza conflict has inflamed a lot of tension and Israel won a long time ago. We refuse to use our leverage against Israel. It becomes a question of strategy. We could eliminate the Houthis, but at what cost? Are we going to invade Yemen? Short of that, they will keep shooting./3
Interceptors for hit to kill are expensive and complicated technically. Our adversaries realize that, and few other nations have the same capability we do. We have to prepare for the full spectrum of combat, the Houthi's don't. The better question is how did our policy decisions contribute/2
I think that's the wrong way to think of it. We spend our defense budget for commitments world wide. For 6 services. One incident does not mean the effort is wasted. No one was killed here, and that carrier did what it needed to to avoid getting hit. Rockets are cheap, but not always accurate. /1
And they’re not even going all-out in that video. The Navy doesn’t publish flank speed for its carriers, nor does it readily demonstrate it for funsies. I bet they were doing a fair bit beyond even what that video demonstrated. Not a huge stretch that something fell over the side.
Slomo high speed turns, eh.
They're still going 30ish knots. It's not only the speed, it's the angle the carrier banks at.
That's a dam impressive turn for something so big.
Less impressive that jets fall off it though
If this happened last yr our useless media would have somehow blamed Biden & Reps would have had endless hearings. We lose $60M jet now & magically no one points the finger at Trump. To be clear, I am not blaming Trump, but it is very telling the bias in our media to always give Reps a free pass.
Maybe Trump isn't to blame for this, but does anyone know where JD Vance was when this happened? Killing the Pope and destroying that trophy might not have been enough for ole JD.
hegseth is new, he didnt know planes cant fly underwater. hell get it together.
Was Pete at the controls after a bender?
This is such a bad coverup for how we're losing the war against Posieden
Even Caligula won a war against Poseidon, and brought sea shells back to Rome as booty. Trump inherited a much better navy than ol’ Gaius could even imagine, and still can’t win.
Oops
wtf
Well, retrace your steps. Where was the last place it fell overboard?
Someone see if the DOGE boys were onboard - sounds like something they would do
Dank that’s like all of the DOGE savings combined
"Oopsie" as Bukele would say!
I wonder if THAT info made it to Petey Hegseth's wife's Signal linkup.
It was possessed by the ghost of Sen John McCain and tried to douse itself in Holy Water.
The CAG and the ship commander are toast.
This is one of those stories that smells like bullshit. There is a lot more to this than we are being told.
I agree, with this admin, nothing is ever as it seems. And we probably won't get the full story. Burns me up.
The truth will come out eventually. It's like the Iranian missile strike on the US base during his first term. They tried to downplay the troop injuries as "headaches" which ended up being TBI's.
DOGE saves $60 million!
Another DOGE cut
Incompetence. What a waste.
That never happened when we had DEI
Seriously how can this happen.
There are hundreds of cameras on that ship. We should see the actual occurrence. In addition, we should hear the communications audio to confirm when they knew they were a target & the commands that followed. I don’t believe for a moment that a quick maneuver is the reason a jet went overboard. BS!
You think it jumped?
lol. It didn’t just roll off from a sharp turn. We may never know the true reason.
Haha. I read it was being towed from a hanger. This shouldn't be funny, but...
This will make a new underwater exploration site!! 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
Si many jobs lost to save money for jet # SINK420..
Oopsie!
Since the current WH administration lies constantly why should I believe this is true? "A US official said that initial reports from the scene indicated that the Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard."
At least nobody fell off with it….
Dammit Pete!
FUBAR
You just set Hegseth off on a huge drinking jag with this news.
Sabotage?? One way to get even with the government.. I don’t know🤷🏼♀️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏼
ETTD
Is this confirmed by signal yet? Did Hegseth’s wife and brother get updated?
And his attorney 🙄
Well there’s your problem, the jet fell off.
Pero como?
Request the investigation through the FOIA.
Request the logs for the date in question.
I bet the crewman was like
oopsie doopsie!
Hegseth!!!!!!!
🫤🤷♀️🤔 How does that happen?!
I see the “meritocracy” is going great! Hegseth is unqualified and only got the job because of who is friends are. Bring back DEI where the candidates were always over-qualified in order to get picked over the white guy the decision-maker knew from college.
All that hollywood propaganda making us believe the US forces were made all of Rambos and Bradocks, but the reality it is showing that they are in fact a bunch of Olivers and Hardys
Has that ever happened before? Seriously, are you fucking kidding me.
warfighters gonna warfight
This happens every once in a while. Carrier deck operations are hard and dangerous at the best of times. USS Oriskany, Forrestal, and Enterprise all nearly blew themselves up in accidents. Once the A-4 that fell of the side had an atomic bomb. At least no one died this time.
It's this guy's fault (oh, look, a Trump appointee!). He has no clue when Pearl Harbor happened.
Trump didn’t even know ANYTHING about Pearl Harbor so, this guy at least knew something☹️.
That damn DEI carrier.
Fun fact. No aircraft carrier staffed by an exclusively transgender or even majority transgender crew has ever dropped an airplane into the ocean.

They let DUI Hegseth fly it?
Do we all have confidence in the chain of command these days?? Seems like everyone is on top of correct protocol and saving us a ton of money. 🙄
Sure miss DEI
OOPSIE!
even the USSA Navy is now the joke of the world #lolX
Let me guess, it was carrying the Epstein files.
So this is where my Sasha got to! 😂😂😂
Love it!!
It’s from that giant military cats feed, I think.
OMG
An aircat carrier!
Bendigedig
But that's a F-35B.
I don't think a cat can tell the difference
Winner!
Turns out it's DEI that keeps the planes on the ships.
Preposterous
Shouldn't DOGE be all over this? Fraudwasteandabuse* (all one word).
Might as well give them to Ukraine if we’re just gonna toss them.
DOGE will count this as +$60 billion
Waste, fraud & abuse!
Fell overboard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“Sailors towing the aircraft took immediate action to move clear of the aircraft before it fell overboard. An investigation is underway.” I look forward to following along with the investigation on Signal.
Biggest burial at sea ever.
It's just sounds so incompetent. Don't they secure these jets somehow??
No
You can't park their mate
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5q...
Russia is checking Pete Hegseth's Signal chat for the recovery coordinates.
Was #PeteHegseth at the wheel?
Jets falling overboard will have terrible consequences of driving the Onion out of business.
Now the orcas can really fuck some yachts up.
“Well, actually, that’s an F-22, not an F/A-18…”
Giant Military Cats would have had the correct jets. Unfortunately...
…they’re also incompetent.
It's an old meme
@ggronvall.bsky.social
Could have funded 10 Jens for the rest of their careers. Whoopsies and framed as chump change in context of mistakes were made (I assume).
😂
This is how we know the earth isn’t flat. Cats would have pushed everything off the edge.
It’s like an episode of Star Wars Rebels. Kanan and Ezra buzz a Star Destroyer with a tugboat and spooks the captain into dumping a load of TIE fighters. Zeb farts. Credits roll.
Great band name though.
Doubt the real-world "savings" from DOGE are even enough to pay for a replacement.
Oh man everything is so nuts.
Trump Announces New Submarine
That caused a sincere chuckle
It was probably an old jet anyway... 🤷♂️
Beautiful. Thanks for the update.
Was hegseth parking the plane?
Look at who is in charge of it. @PeteHegseth is a drunk running our defense department. 😂
Lost due to hard maneuvering to avoid $25K Houthi drones lol. They’re winning the war by bankrupting the US military.
War isn't about throwing down dollar bills and whoever has the bigger pile wins. Sometimes you have to spend money. That drone was a 25K single-use bullet that missed. The F/A-18 was in service for years if not decades and has long since paid for itself.
War is exactly like that except it’s the battle of cumulative investment holdings over a period of years.
Except a suicide drone can't do the job of an F/A-18. In WWII the one dive bomber that sank Akagi was a lot cheaper than an aircraft carrier, but without the equally expensive USS Enterprise it could never have been there to do it. Sometimes you have to spend money.
Houthis are never going to face the USA in conventional war so the drones work for them just fine. Soon the USA will not be able to afford having a fleet out there by the Houthis and they would have won by default.
Time to visit the Vietnam Victory Monument
Vietnam was never winnable. We were interfering in a combination anti-colonial revolution and civil war. We won on the battlefield pretty much every time, but that didn't matter. The Vietnamese people wanted independence, and we were just another occupying army supporting a corrupt proxy government.
Oh how interesting
Cope
You let me know when a one-way suicide drone can do the job of an F/A-18. They are different weapons for different jobs and you need both. And sometimes that means spending money.
Whatever makes you feel better
Whatever keeps our service men alive and wins our wars quickly.
Haven’t had much success with that either :C
In conventional wars we have. We obliterated Iraq twice and our decades-old equipment has been wiping the floor with the Russians in Ukraine. Our defeats in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam were the result of us becoming unwelcome occupiers the local people hated and wanted gone. That's not winnable.
Delusional
As if beeing adored by the locals is not a Part of Changing a Regime.
Oopsy Doge will fix it
As OJ says, "it happens." 🤷♂️
I understand the first year of gradual escalation with the Houthis, but that was last year. At this point we need to either put a stop to these nonstop attacks, or sail out of the area.
how many folks they gotta fire to cover that??
Makes no sense. An aircraft carrier made a hard turn to evade enemy fire?
DEI keeps planes in Skies 🤎
Was Drunk Major Hegseth on board?
And I bet Sec’y WhiskeyLeaks will be getting to the bottom of this mistake post-haste, right?
So much winning. They do know how to secure those aircraft right? Maybe they forgot to attend the signal chat where #petehegseth demonstrated this
Pretty confident my wife could find the fighter jet and make the Navy feel like it was obvious.
Pretty much ANY wife and/or mother could! 😁
Someone please take Hegseth’s keys and get him a Lyft.
So that's 1 plane and what, 7 drones for the Houthis? And we've accomplished what from this multi billion dollar project of bombing people who have been bombed for a decade?
Oops.
maybe y'all shouldn't have practicing alcoholics running the show.
Pic taken April 1. Is this a joke? Oh wait, Hegseth is in charge...must be true.
So would that constitute as waste?
Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard.
And Trump accused Biden of throwing gold bars into the ocean?
I'd love to know if that's every happened before 'cause it would be too funny if this was a FIRST!
Last year in the Mediterranean.
Really?
Yes, off the coast of Italy in a storm.
$60 Million! And in this Economy?!!! What kind of Incompetence
ok pony up taxpayers!
