Things are about to get much worse for extreme weather forecasting in the US. Adding to the cuts in NWS staff is the DoD ending its data sharing with NOAA from three DMSP satellites. These satellites provide microwave satellite data, which is crucial for accurate weather forecasting such as floods.

I’m in East Texas. Creeks and rivers here absolutely can flood that fast and storm intensity/rainfall amounts are notoriously difficult to predict. I’m going with what the actual meteorologists are saying, that NWS functioned appropriately. Sometimes bad shit just happens.
