But but short term profit? What about the impacts on our environment? We are in a do or die already with our climate cities. What about the price of electricity? Using so much water that they tell people to take less showers? AI will bring major street warfare when people start losing jobs.

Hinton is wrong on this one. We don’t want AGI/ASI to be like humans. We want them to be subservient to humans. Imagine AGI with the capacity for jealousy, rage, addiction, love, insecurity. A mother might overly coddle, reprimand, or keep us barely alive and in hell out of fear of death/grief. NO

I think he’s wrong about longevity too. Humans who are 200 years, clear and healthy, are more likely to have a maturity and wisdom from living through violence, satisfying desires, chasing things, etc. Many would come to appreciate peace, nature, community, hobbies, spirituality - imo

To make it value humans it will need perspective, a place far from earth to develop & contemplate values. Earth is the only place humans can survive, while AI, in theory can survive anywhere. Ultimately it will see that there is no need to compete with organic life forms.

Unless we figure out the power situation, we won't get anywhere close to that. But he isn't wrong at all. They are building this to make it "too big to fail" I'm part of this influx of money for AI projects. But most projects are absolute bullshit. Useless algorithms that won't help anything.
