and trump will blame this on biden not himself of course-
The only "hobby that's costing young men tens of thousands of dollars" is collecting Warhammer miniatures. Gambling is a f-ing addiction.
BIGGER than JFK is the #EpsteinFiles imagine the corruption to coverup this child violence and sexual acts against daughters of America! 🇺🇸 Huge nasty coverup! Are minors still being violated? We do not know! Coverup!
And who will these young guys blame their addiction on?
😔
Expansion of gambling adverts; proliferation of 'we buy your gold' ads; appearance of more charity & pawn shops on High streets; expansion of loan term (35/40yr even multi-generational mortgages, buy now pay later etc) all the precursors to a recession. As ever, being ignored in the moment.
Gee, who could have predicted an unfettered betting industry would produce addicts. 🤦♀️
How is gambling a "hobby"?
Hobby (def): "an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure." This is what gambling is for a lot of people. If you don't depend on gambling wins for your income, it's leisure. If you like gambling, it's for pleasure.
I think when most people think about “hobbies” in the collective imagination they assume it’s something that’s meaningful in some way and not inherently self-destructive. Gambling is considered a vice in most cultures. It involves people risking their and their dependent’s livelihoods.
Half the US population gambles. Just as most people who drink alcohol are not alcoholics. To call gambling "inherently self-destructive" is false. Some are addicts. Most are not. Also, many hobbies are not meaningful other than being fun for the people doing it. Collections are all like that.
Nobody calls drinking a hobby either & it’s also inherently unhealthy, even in moderation. Yes, many can enjoy something destructive in moderation. You can also overdo generally healthy behaviour. The point I’m making is that most people think gambling being a “hobby” is silly.
"Nobody calls drinking a hobby" Neither did I. I raised drinking to your point about self-destructiveness. "it’s also inherently unhealthy, even in moderation." Nope. "most people think gambling being a “hobby” is silly." I bet most casual gambles would say "it's just a hobby." (1/2)
But if you don't like the comparison to alcohol, try drugs. Pot is prescribed sometimes as a medicine, so not inherently unhealthy. Some people are addicts, others are not. The ones who are not ace commonly called "recreational" users. "Recreational" means "for fun", just like "hobby" does. (2/2)
You don’t seem to understand what I’m saying. This is about how the general public defines & understands “Hobby.” Friend, unless BetMGM is cutting your checks I don’t know why this distinction means so much to you. As for drinking not being inherently destructive, take it up with the WHO.
"unless BetMGM is cutting your checks" LOL! Most people who gamble don't use betting companies. They bet with friends. My father and his buddies played poker every week for over 30 years. Very low stakes. For fun. It was their hobby. You don't seem to understand how people gamble.
Good for you, buddy.
WwWWwHhHAAaaaAaTtttT????? Who-who-who-who could have seen this coming???? bsky.app/profile/tech...
It's not a hobby. It's a disease.
Addictions are being called "hobbies" now?
